3D AAT Questions

Is 3D AAT combo can be used with DA small throw such as 8mm and 12mm. Or it designed for rotary and big throw 21&15mm. Thanks

Yep.

3D AAT Rubbing Compound and 3D AAT Finishing Polish have been my "go-to" recently. I've used them on most of my recent correction details. I've got BLACKFIRE and Menzerna too just in case those don't play well with that paint. I actually just finished my 32 oz bottles of the AAT stuff and will be replacing them with gallons to refill my 12 oz squeeze bottles.

When David F introduced these first on Autopia(showing a bunch of 5050 shots done in trashed cars), I recall he mentioned these have been designed to work with rotary and wool pads IIRC. Upon launch the statements were generalised to support most pads and DAs. Have you had a chance to use them on DA and different pads?if not (and when you have some play time) please do so.

So what gives the AAT compound edge to be your goto? Describe the experience please

Can be used on both with great results. On a long throw, the compound works FAST. It's amazing what it does after just 2 passes with a long throw polisher. Wipes off easy and doesn't dust. The Finishing Polish wipes off even easier and is my favorite of the two because it can actually cut very well for a polish, but still finishes down perfect. For most details I try and only use the Finishing Polish and adjust my pad as needed. Works great on foam, microfiber and wool pads because the working time is endless. During testing, I polished a panel for a long time with an 8mm DA and it never dried up on me. I've experienced ZERO dusting ever with the AAT system.

How is the pad gumming behaviour of these as I found ADAPT (that's based on same abrasive technology) gums up pads.

I've used the AAT system on a ton of pad/polisher combinations. Everything from foam to microfiber to wool on both DA's and Rotary's. In the last ~6 weeks alone I've corrected about 15 cars with the AAT system and have experience zero dusting ever.

I'd say the edge with 3D AAT Rubbing Compound is speed and ease of use. It's amazing how fast it works, especially on a long throw polisher. Two passes is all you usually need (seriously), it wipes off easy, doesn't dust, and finishes down great.

Example (on a Pontiac G6):

Setup: Makita 9227 with Tangerine Hydro-Tech Pad and 3D AAT Compound

I couldn't be happier with that finish from a rotary and Rubbing Compound.

The edge with 3D AAT Finishing Polish is.....everything . It's my favorite of the two because it actually cuts, but finishes down perfect. You can adjust the cut you want by the pad that you're using. The working time is ENDLESS. On test panels I've used polished the same area for a LONGGG time and the polish never dried up. It doesn't dust and is SUPER EASY to wipe off the paint. The Hyundai I'm working on tonight has HARD paint and I'm using AAT Finishing Polish on a Buff and Shine Wool Polishing Pad. I'm still fairly new to a rotary, but the working time AAT Finishing Polish gives me makes me feel confident. With other polishes, by the time I figure out how to control the rotary the polish has dried up.

Setup: Makita 9227c with 6 inch Flex Foam BP and 7.5 inch Buff and Shine Polishing Wool Pad

I've inspected the paint thoroughly and only found very small area with light hologram haze, likely from improper technique on more difficult sections or panels. Of course I'm going to come back and use a DA with a Foam pad to finish, but this gives you an idea of how great this polish is.

p.s. Those 2600 Lumen LED bulbs show every single defect. Under regular lighting the paint looks perfect.

Funny you say that because I brought home a bottle of Adapt to try for the very first time last night and while it works well, I don't think it works as well as the AAT Rubbing Compound or Finishing Polish. I tried it on a test spot and then switched to the AAT system. I haven't noticed my pads gumming up at all with the AAT system.

I see everyone recommending the HD polishes like Adapt or Cut or Polish or Speed, but I think they just haven't tried the AAT system yet Then again, not everyone needs 32 oz of product so I can understand.

I haven't tried the 3D line, since they're more expensive and I can't justify it for my limited personal use... But the HD line is great. Long work time, no dust, and super easy to wipe off. If the 3D is really that much better, it'd be must have for a pro, I'd think.

Well I know what I'm buying when my HD cut and polish run out!

Do the AAT products play nice in the sun? I found that adapt is extremely difficult to wipe off when used in direct sunlight

I find Adapt a bit finicky at times with removal as well but seems to work pretty good.

I recently got the newer Polish+ and HD Cut+ that supposed to have higher cut and tried the Polish+. I like it even better than normal polish and still no dust or gumming either.

I have the AAT Compound and polish and will test those out this weekend - rotary and Rupes 21. Looking forward to seeing how they stack up.
