300zx...?

I've heard that the proper preventative maintenance on a 300ZX TT was pretty damn expensive. In fact, many times, this maintenance has been neglected, making the car a time bomb if you get the wrong car.



You may be better off getting a non-turbo 300ZX.

Well, I have a lot of friends with 300s, and they seem to love it. You might want to check twinturbo.net, it is the best site on the web for 300s. As for comparing it to other cars, well, get what you want, not what others want. If you like vettes, get one. If you like supras, get one. But if you like the Z, join the few and the proud.

My father had a 71 Chevelle--first car I ever drove. But he had the base toilet motor 307 with 200 horse--probably gross hp!



I'd get an MR2 turbo, one of the last--a 94 or 95.



Small and agile.

$11,000 wouldn't get a very nice 94 or 95 - those were the final revision in the states, and tend to carry a premium - a quality one usually goes for $13,000 or so, but it can be done. A '93 (which had most of the major upgrades) should be easy for 11 grand though.



If it's going to be an only car, however, I would *not* suggest an MR2 turbo - unless you have access to other cars easily, the MR2 is about as impractical a car as one can find. trunk space is virtually nonexistent, there's not even a fake backseat, etc. Not to mention that driving it at the limit is not easy. If you want to learn how to drive and you can afford to have a car that has basically no practical value, then MR2s are great (I own one). If you need a car to haul anything more than yourself and 1 other person in, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Or, (Prinz will probably back me on this) what about a maxima? I just test drove one of the '04s yesterday and I gotta say, if the previous generations are as quick and well built as these new ones, its a decent contender as a sportier sedan. It sounds like you don't push your cars too often so you might be just as happy with this- low operating/repair costs, lower insurance probably than even the 'velle, just a win-win.

A32 Maxima ('95-'99):



This would be your best bet. You can get a decent '97-'99 SE from $8000 and up. Plus these Maxes are highly moddable. There is an A32 in these parts that has taken out a Z28 with no problem. But he is blown and lightly Nitroused. Some folks will get a GXE and mod it as well. :D



A33 Maxima ('00 - '03):





'00-'01 SE: This variant has the VQ30DE-K (222 hp). Most peeps will get this variant because you have more go fast options for this motor than the VQ35DE (e.g. superchargers). Anniversary Editions have the same motor but it's 227 hp (Modified muffler design that carried over to the '02s). You can find some older A33s in the price range you are looking for (except the '01 Anniversary Edition, '02, '03: Off limits due to price unless you can do some serious negotiations on an '02 w/o a sunroof.).





'02-'03 SE: (The grocery getters Chevelle loves to hate :D)

The VQ35DE is a very good motor and will give you a good balance of performance (255 hp) and mileage. In fact, my '02 would turn an average of 21-22 mpg city. If you get one of these beasts, make sure that you have a good security system in place to protect your HIDs and/or order the kit from Courtesy Nissan (www.courtesyparts.com) to keep peeps from getting your lights. To replace those HIDs will cost you $1200.

I have a 94 Black Emerald Z and you can definitely work on them. Somebody said that it was the most cluttered engine bay EVER. I thought the same thing when I first bought the car. Now, it's a piece of cake (relatively speaking).
