300zx...?

Im thinking about selling the chevelle for something more MPG concious.. I was considering a 300zx twin turbo.. What do you guys think?? I want something new, with good gas mileage and pretty fast... I know this is like hard to do but any suggestions would be nice.. And yes it needs to have a good paint so that i can make it shine.. Thanks:)

I'm assuming the Chevelle is paid for. So, save your money as best as possible, allowing your savings to grow. Then when it is large enough, purchase whatever car you'd like. Keep the Chevelle then you'll have 2 cars.

300ZX TT.....mmmppppphhhhh.....Droool.....

I've always loved the '90-'96 TT and dream of owning a pearl white 5sp. Such a great looking car, but tough to find a good condition (not abused), lower milage one for a reasonable price.

But as others have mentioned you might want to save up for a newer car that will most likely be more reliable. Even the newest TT Z will be going on 8 years old and require manitenance. They may get better mpg than your chevelle, but not stellar.....low 20's probably.

That said, I still want one. Check out Pat300Z (I think) his Z is gorgeous.

A classic Chevelle SS for a 300Z??? :scared

Ugh, keep the Chevelle man! Nothing like a balls to the wall thunderous American V8.

Apples and oranges.

I just love muscle cars (my favorite being the 70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 :xyxthumbs )

well this IS gonne be my everyday car, i dont have an SS, so my chevelle is actually pretty slow, It gets bad gas mileage and it smokes cause it needs new rings. I need something in the 0-11,000 dollar price range. And fast, i need fast. And the chevelle just isnt what i need. Also my car doesnt have a/c so thats a pain...

I paid less than $11k for my low mileage 1987 Corvette, and that was 6 years ago. I imagine you could easily get a very nice '89 to a good '92-93.

I was able to fairly easily get 25+ mpg on the highway, and in regular driving I rarely got less than 20 mpg (though it requires some attention to mileage). Not too bad for a car that made 345 lb-ft of torque at its peak, and made 280 lb-ft just off idle (1600 rpm). Just a thought... ;)

My only problem with the Z32 300ZX TT is that it's the most cluttered engine bay *EVER*

Plus, it's a V motor, whereas I always prefer an I - but that's nitpicking, and unless you're going for serious power, it doesn't really matter.

Personally - there's a lot of other nice choices besides a 300ZX. You could look into an LT1 Camaro or, like Aurora said, a late 80s/early 90s LT1 vette.

So i couldnt work on it?? This is gonna be the everday car i drive to school and back, and i live on back roads and would like to have tight, responsive steering. And those other cars just dont get the MPG or do they??

No, you could work on it yourself - there's just a lot more to go wrong.

Have you ever owned a turbo car?

Chevelle, not to burst your bubble, but a TT 300ZX (or any sports car) is not going to be cheap to insure due to your age. Like everyone else has said, you might want to save the $$ and get something else that will not kill you on insurance and operating costs.

yeah on a vette if thats what you decide to search out, I would definitely try to get a 91+ as those have the LT1, not the L98. Not that there's anything per se wrong with the L98 TPI motor but from my experience you'll be much happier with an LT1 as there are many more perf. parts and/or replacement parts for these available.

Or, (Prinz will probably back me on this) what about a maxima? I just test drove one of the '04s yesterday and I gotta say, if the previous generations are as quick and well built as these new ones, its a decent contender as a sportier sedan. It sounds like you don't push your cars too often so you might be just as happy with this- low operating/repair costs, lower insurance probably than even the 'velle, just a win-win.

all stuff to consider. :xyxthumbs

How much do you guys think insurance would be?? I have never owned a turbo car, no. But I am very mechanically inclined and know quite a bit about cars, I think. What kinda gas mileage does the vettes get? And how fast are they? Just the thought of a twin turbo car....ahhh. I should be getting the drivers ed discount and good grades on insurance so that will bump it down and im getting a job when i turn 16..

I have a 94 All black 300Zx Convertible. It is not my daily driver, but for the money it is a great car compared to the competion. I can put two golf bags in the trunk.

As far as a Twin Turbo. There are many around with less than 60K miles selling for less than 1/2 of their original price. With a little bit of upgrading you can have a 400HP two seater.

There are many nice two seat sport / sporty cars too choose from.

Stock turbos and clutch are good for 400? Turbos and clutch aren't what I'd consider "minor" items - but if they're good for it, then cool! I don't have any experience with a 300, so I'm just asking.
