Hey everyone. Had a big job come in the other day. A brand new Lexus GS350 in Obsidian Black with less than 500 miles on it. The catch was, this car had already been professionally detailed, and the owner still wasn't happy. Lets see why...
There was wax residue on literally EVERY seam, crack, and crevice of the car. I would be embarrassed if I returned a vehicle to a customer with even one spot of residue on it, but apparently not everyone shares those sentiments.
To make matters worse, both shops had swirled the crap out of the paint, some which were very deep. The first day of the detail was overcast, so sun shots were tough. Here is what the swirls looked like though.
Much easier to see in the shop with the swirl finder light.
These photos were taken after the normal wash, ironx, and light claying to remove a few bonded contaminants from the lower panels, and rear of the vehicle.
After several test spots, I can up with a two step approach that removed the majority of the swirls, and gave the vehicle maximum gloss. This paint was fairly soft and had a tendency to mar when wiping, so the correction process took quite a long time.
This approach removed all but the deepest marks, and left the paint with tons of gloss.
After the correction, the vehicle was re-washed, and then wiped down twice with Car Pro Eraser to make sure the surface was free of polishing oils, or anything else that might interfere with the bonding of Finest. Two thick coats of Cquartz Finest were applied to the paint, wheels, and trim. Car Pro FlyBy30 was then applied to the glass.
Before pulling it out, the engine bay was also cleaned up. There was only a little dust, so it was wiped clean with Ultima Waterless Wash, and then dressed with two layers of Sonus Trim and Tire Kote.
The wheels were cleaned with Car Pro Iron X and the tires and wheel wells were scrubbed with MEguiars APC. The wells were dressed with Hyperdressing, and the tires got two thin layers of Car Pro PERL 1:1
Here is how it all came together.
The vehicle came out great, considering how badly it started off, and the client and I were very happy with the outcome. He was so excited he actually called Car Pro and ordered a bunch of products to use to maintain his vehicle until his next correction and application of Finest.
