2013 Audi A5 in Brilliant Black

mjlinane

My name is Mike
A coworker's. I'd seen in the parking lot and didn't think was that bad. As the title says, a 2013 Audi A5 in Brilliant Black - a victim of repeated tunnel washes. The owner told me it had soft paint. Not so much.

My normal decon (CG Citrus Wash + OPC -> Carpro IronX Snow Soap -> CW CWC -> SM Arnold Speedy Prep + Nanoskin Glide), revealed it to be was a swirled up mess. Started with RUPES UHS combo but, several test spots later, wound up with RUPES + Megs Cutting + Megs M101 to get acceptable correction. This left a slight haze that was brilliantly eliminated with GG6 + Carpro Gloss Pad + Carpro Essence. Protection was DP Paint Coating.

Here are the afters:

Beautiful work, Mike !!!

Wow - nothing better than Audi's version of Jet Black - so much easier to work with!!!

You absolutely Killed It, my Friend!!!

Incredible Clarity and Gloss - that looked so deep and wet..

Thanks for all that hard work and then the hard work to take pics AND a great video, edit and post it up-

HOLY SMOKING DECON, BATMAN. What a process :o

When I'm going to coat a car, I want to ensure I remove the loosely bonded contaminants, the embedded contaminants and the bonded contaminants. (If I am not coating, I may leave out several of the steps.) My process for this is:

1. Tires and wheels.
2. HP rinse
3. Foam with the CG CW Red + OPC mixture to further loosen the loosely bonded stuff more and to strip any existing LSP - while it is dwelling, I go around all of the seams with a boars hair brush.
4. HP rinse
5. Foam with Carpro IronX Snow Soap for the embedded (also does a nice job of further stripping anything left) - while dwelling, I generally do the exhaust tips with P21S Polishing Soap.
6. My take on the Garry Dean Perfect Wash Method with the CG CWC. Note - I did not rinse off IronX Snow Soap prior.
7. HP rinse.
8. Pull in garage and, while still wet, "clay" and dry.

All told, maybe 45 min - 1 hour (not counting wheels which can be far longer).

In the old days, I used the Valugard ABC system. This is my modern version. Is it overkill? Probably... but that is how I roll. ;)

Thanks for sharing the process!!!

Overkill? Probably. But like you said, it's going to get coated and you want to be sure it's as clean as a whistle? is that the expression? need more coffee....brain...wearing....down
