Hey there everyone! Today we have a 2012 Volkswagen Golf R in the shop. It was initially booked for a New Car Correction with Opti-Coat Pro, but after discussing it with the customer some more, we both decided that Cquartz Finest would be the best product for his car. He takes great car of his vehicle, and wants it always to look it's best. In addition to that work, we also needed to remove some clear bra from the bumper that had sustained some pretty heavy damage.
We started with getting the exterior totally clean. It wasn't filthy, but still had some road grime, so we started with a foaming with Chemical Guys Honey Dew Foam. While it dwelled on the paint we agitated the trim, emblems, and fuel filler area with a soft brush.
The vehicle was then rinsed, and a traditional wash with Meguiars Hyperwash was performed. The wheels were in good shape, so the left over wash was used with some wheel woolies to clean the wheels. Blackfire APC was used on the tires and wheel wells. The tires were dressed with Car Pro PERL and the wells dressed with Hyperdressing.
After the vehicle was dried, the first order of business was removing the clear bra from the front bumper. Here you can see the damage right above the black grill area. There is one large impact area, then a few smaller ones to the left of it.
A heat gun and some patience was used to remove the bra. Just a little bit of residue was left behind.
The glue residue was cleaned with adhesive remover, and then bumper received the same correction steps as the rest of the vehicle.
The bra certainly did it's job, as you can see in the following picture, the only damage to the bumper is a small dent that can only be seen at a certain angle, no paint was removed from the impact.
The paint on this car was in fairly good shape for the most part. We did notice some holograms on the back door and quarter. Someone at the dealership must have taken a stab at it with a rotary at some point.
Other than those areas there were very few swirls, just some normal wash induced marring.
To get the finish perfect before applying Cquartz FINEST, we went with a two step approach. We started with Menzerna FG400 on an Orange LC hybrid pad with the Rupes 21LHR and finished with Menzerna 106fa on a green Uber pad with a Meguiars G110da. We performed the same correction steps to all of the paint on the exterior, even if we had to lay on the ground to reach it...(hybrid details FTMFL!) Here is how it turned out.
After the correction was complete, we wiped down the paint, wheels, trim, and glass with Car Pro Eraser to make sure all of the polishing oils and any other contaminants were removed. We then applied two thick coats of Cquartz Finest to all of the surfaces. Here is how the whole car turned out.
