Here's one more. The son of the owner loved to boss me and the other guys around, especially when we were working on motorcycles (assembling new ones and running the valves were my main duties in the shop.)
He had this big orange Chevy 4wd pickup with huge tires and mag wheels. It was his pride and joy. He also had several other cars and a tremendous ego. He started parking his truck in the locked area of our lot after somebody tried to steal something off his truck (can't remember what it was now...) One night he left his truck overnight in the locked area and I was the first one there the next morning, shortly followed by the head mechanic. I couldn't help laughing out loud as there was his truck on 4 jackstands (left by the thieves...) No tires or wheels to be seen! When he got there he was, shall I say, pissed!
His dad then decided to give him an early birthday present and asked me to go pick up the new tires and wheels that he just ordered at the tire store . Told me to tell his son I had to take some motorcycle tires to the tire store for some reason or another so he wouldn't get suspicious. Well, the son told me that under no circumstances should I go anywhere - he wanted me to do something else. I went back and for between having his dad tell me to go and the son tell me to stay. Finally I just went back into the shop and worked on a bike. The dad came back and screamed at me for awhile, right in front of the son. I just said "I guess you'll have to pick up the wheels yourself." This made him really mad, and his son asked me why I wouldn't do what his dad wanted me to. I told him I tried but you wouldn't let me. This did not seem to phase him, as if it was perfectly logical for them to ask me to do mutally exclusive things and wonder why I wasn't doing both of them.
I know this sounds crazy but this is how it went down. His dad went and got the wheels himself, made me put them on the truck, and then screamed at me some more for ruining the surprise.
I feel sorry for anybody who has to work for jerks. I liked the job OK but I could only handle so much abuse. When I started college those days were over.
