You guys have been so helpful with my car I was hoping you may know something about removing tape pinstrip from a boat(I hope I don't get in trouble for a non-car question.) I just bought a royal blue fiberglass bass boat(It is your typical speckled blue almost candy apple blue). The pinstripe is peeling off in a lot of places so I think it will come off easy. Should I use bug and tar remover if there is any residue??? Also, if I want a great shine could I use Imperial Hand Glaze and then Blitz Wax?? I happen to have some in my garage. The boat is in excellent shape, aside from the peeling pinstripe the finish looks great. Thanks for any advice.

Can you borrow a "heat gun" if not, a hair dryer will help.

First heat the decal/stripe to loosen the adhesive, (not much really left, it has evaporated for the most part)

You need the heat to expand the vinyl material. Then apply a safety solvent of some kind and soak it.

Don't get in a hurry!!

You have to allow for the solvents to penetrate. That is why you heated it.

Then, after about 10 minutes , reheat, reapply. Let set!

Get a "plastic" razor blade, don't use steel, you will cut the gel coat.

Slowly work the stripe/vinyl off, and you will have to keep heating and applying. ( this is a time consuming project)

When all done, you will probably have to use a compound and high speed rotary to make the gel match by cutting off about a 1/2 to a mil (not a problem as gel coat is 16 to 20 mils thick on a boat and the dense part at the top is 5 to 6 mils thick)

Then take off the cutting pad and put on a polishing pad and polish with the rotary to remove the cutting marks made by the compound.

Then put a good sealant on it.

:bounce Ole buddy is here

As always I bring my concerns to my TID family :w00t:

So, are you going to participate or are you a bit paranoid as I am releasing your personal info to someone :scared:

I have advised my Wife, if I'm not home to not answer the door. The way are society is now there is just to much room for abuse IMO :Snowman:

I'm definately participating. I think it's very important for individuals, families and communities.

If someone does not get counted in the census, it is assumed that the population of a community is less than what it really is. That means fewer tax dollars spent because of fewer people. Also new community infrastructure is dependant based on how many people live in an area. Hospitals, schools, road imrovements and other things are often based upon how many people are shown to live in a certain area.

Do your community a favor and be counted!

I believe the Constitution only requires a count. I don't know what they want some of the other information for.
A little paranoia isn't always a bad thing. Just tell 'em Stop

Im thinking that if they want a count, that is ok, but not about to release any other information, i.e., SSN, that kind of stuff..

And I am sure that there will be scammers out there posing as the Census Takers to try to mine information as well...

I am just going to use common sense, and if my gut feeling is to not do something, I won't..

Roots Radical is right, - we need to participate so that somehow the government agency/s will be able to compile the information to hopefully, someday, help the States of the Union out, right ??

Conspiracy theories seem to always exist with anything. I would laugh if someone refuses to participate in the census and then turns around and tells the world more in Facebook or other social networking place.

Yes, I know its the right thing to do, but at the same time I'm just not going to reveal alot of personal information to someone I don't know :out:

:iagree::iagree: Thanks for saving me the key strokes...

Ha ha.., thank you, I agree 100%:iagree:

As far as this census i saw some of the questions and as far as i'm concerned the only question i'm going to answer is How many people live in your house. What does your race or your mortgage have to do with the census? I will not even give them my name. :out:

Before getting involved with the conspiracy crowd why not look up what questions the census form really asks?

From the census web site....

http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/about-the-form.php

The 2010 Census form is just 10 questions, such as:

  • Name
  • Sex
  • Age
  • Date of birth
  • Hispanic origin
  • Race
  • Household relationship
  • If you own or rent
The census DOES NOT ask about the legal status of respondents or their Social Security numbers.

Here is the form:

Not much here to worry about unless you are truly paranoid.

Not to pick on you specifically, but Carfreak I just did a two minute search of your recent posts and I probably know more about you than any census taker ever will.

If the government or corporate america wants info on any of us, they can do it a lot cheaper and sneakier than the census.

Seriously, what's with all the paranoia everbody? Quit listening to Glen Beck and get back to work
