2010 Santa Fe - First Proper Detail

Paint Ph.D
Hey all....long time no see although I am still alive, I'm sorry I haven't posted much lately but I haven't had much to post about. Portland just drowned in its second-wettest spring in the record books which have been kept for 140 years! Keeping my car clean for a day or two was a challenge as the few dry days that were forecast would inevitably turn wet. Detailing it was simply out of the question.

This is my car and when I bought it in September, neither of the two dealers had really done much with it and I honestly believe they might have never washed it but no matter. I was happy they didn't let some buffer jockey loose on it and I was able to clay and protect just in time for the winter. With summer FINALLY arriving here in the NW, I decided to spiff it up just a bit since there was bound to be some wash-induced marring and there were a few spots I needed to polish out superficial surface scratches. The car was in excellent condition overall with literally no swirling since it has been cleaned using the two-bucket method and MF towels and mitts since brand new. So with a plan in place, I buckled down and went to town.

Process

Wash with Dawn to strip off old coats of BFWD and 845. This was met with only marginal success.
Clay with Griot's clay and Speed Shine as lubricant
Polished using random orbital
LC 6" white + Menzerna Super Finish
IPA wipedown
One coat of BFWD allowed to cure for one hour. A coat of 845 will follow within the next week or so.
Black plastic trim was treated with 303 Aerospace Protectant
Tires were dressed with Griot's Long-Lasting Tire Dressing

Here is the result.

Major thanks go to Nike security for letting me onto the World Campus to snap these photos. Sadly the camera refused to cooperate and out of the ten photos I shot, these two were the only decent ones. :(

And the obligatory sun shot. Sorry it's not very good; this particular camera hates having vague topics to focus on.
