We just got (getting) this van. It is silver and was wondering what is better protection products to use that is otc? What do i need to use and protect the headlights? I have some Megiars(sp) plactic polish and maybe something else. I want them looking new. It has "wood" panels inside what to do with this? Thanks
 
Assuming your going to be doing the work by hand rather than machine, you will want to use a sealant such as Poorboys EX-P for protection. Most of us like to lay down sealant and then wax for the best protection and look. I also use sealant on headlights and taillights if they are in good shape. If they are cloudy and yellow, the PlastX may work, but most likely you will need to use an abrasive polish or even compound to clear them up. The wood trim, to me, looks better when its simply buffed with a dry microfiber towel after the interior is dressed.
 
Should i get the Power Ball to use on the headlights? It is a new van and i want to keep the headlights new. What other products do i need to get at the store. thanks
 
I dont think a machine will be nessesary at all. Just keep a coat of sealant or wax on them and you shouldnt have probs. The biggest reason headlights fog up is because they arent taken care of, and it doesnt take long before they are yellowed and hazy. You may find yourself needing a machine to do light restorations on them in the future, but I cant imagine needing one for a new car.
 
As for other products, a clay bar kit would be a good investment. If your planning to go all over the counter, Mothers makes a good kit. A great OTC wax is Auto Glym HD. I'm not sure about OTC sealants, but just keeping a good coat of quality wax will give you good protection. Other than that, a collection of microfiber towels, a good mitt and drying towel, a wheel and tire cleaner, and using the 2 bucket method when washing will keep it looking great.
 
Thanks i have a clay bar Blue Magic i bought some months ago. Also have some mircofiber towels,wash mitt with dreds (?). How often should i wax the headlights? Thanks
 
I once polished the headlights on our Sienna when it was fairly new, and it accelerated the yellowing process. I was just trying to get a light scratch out, I put EX-P over it, but ever since then they just start yellowing about every 3 months. Don't remember what I used but it wouldn't have been anything very aggressive, SSR 2 I'm guessing since I use that for everything...sucks for me cause the car was only a year old.
 
If you want simple, easy to apply, adds bling, and OTC, I would go with Mothers FX Synwax on silver.

For headlights, I try to remember use a protectant (303, etc) but I think you are at the mercy of the plastic used by the manufacturer - some just yellow or haze more than others.
 
I had 3M Paint Protection Film applied to the headlights on my new Santa Fe; hopefully that will take the brunt of the UV impact.

But back to your original question...those lights do come with some level of UV resistant coating built in and when you polish the lights, it removes that coating. Just keep a coat of sealant or wax on them and you'll be fine.
 
Have a 2001 T&C with leather that has never seen anything but Lexol from day one. 130,000 miles and 10 years later and the leather is still soft and like new. Poorboy's natural look for the interior plastics and Liquid Glass for the paint. Rejex for the headlights and glass. All the same for the wife's 07 Sebring and my 09 Patriot. Not a professional and I didn't stay at no stinking Holiday Inn either.:cool: Ric
