This is a detail of a 2008 VW GTI for a fellow forum member. The car was brand new and the owner avoided dealer prep which made the detail so much easier. There was some minor swirling from improper wash techniques.

The client only wanted an exterior detail but I did the interior at no charge.

Process:

Pre-soak via Foam Gun with Megs NXT and CG CWG

Wash with 2BM and Poorboys SSS

Clay with Clay Magic Blue

Polish with Optimum Polish (new version) via Makita 9227 with Sonus White Pad

Polish with Optimum Polish (new version) via PC and 4 inch pad

LSP=Detailers Pride Surface Sealant

Wheels cleaned with Megs All Wheel Cleaner

Tires cleaned with Eagle One Tire Cleaner

Tires dressed with Meguiars Hot Shine Tire Spray

Exhaust polished with 0000 steel wool and Poorboys Metal Polish

Wheels and calipers sealed with Zaino CS

Glass cleaned with Zep Glass Cleaner

Headlights polished via OP and Megs Plastix

Engine wiped down with ONR and dressed with CD2

Looks good! Makes me wish somebody didn't put all my pads back on the shelf dirty so I could have worked on mine yesterday. Instead I spent the afternoon cleaning everything and doing laundry!

Gotta love the $200 heated seat option for cloth that not that many people knew about. Smart buyer.

Great job Pat!

How do you like the new OP polishes?

Hey Ryan,

It worked pretty well. The new OP has more cut than the old version and a ton of working time. Using less is the best way to go. The product is very thick. Its a pain to get it from the large bottle into smaller ones. However, the good news it that I got zero dust with it.

All and all its a nice polish to use if Menzerna is acting up on you.

Pat-did you follow OP/rotary with anything or did you end up swirl free? I noticed you also used the PC with 4" pads but I am guessing that was for the tighter areas. First time I used it with a rotary on what had to be softer paint than a VW, I was pleasantly suprised at the probably 95% hologram free finish.

The Gti looks great. :)

Scott,

I used the new OP with a white Sonus pad via rotary. I worked it at 900-1200-1500-1200-900. I got no holograms at all. I did use the PC with the 4 inch pad for the plastic bumpers.

It was a nice product to work with...:2thumbs:

I have the 4 door version of that GTI. I love it! All I did to mine at first was wash, clay and seal with Megs 21 2.0. Then after a few weeks - a coat of 26 and a later coat of 50-50. I could have skipped the 26, it didn't do anything for it.

Thanks Pat, just wanted to be sure my experience wasn't an anomoly. I have a dealer hacked black Maxima to detail next week, hopefully OP + Ultrafina will make it perfect.

Pat, thanks again for a tremendous job. We're delighted with how much better the new car looks now that it's been through the proper hands.

Thanks sir! Car is an 08 equipped with cold weather pack, sunroof and mat kit which includes the Gorilla Gear insert for the trunk.

I see you're from Binghamton? I am originally from Corning. I used to work for Berger's which is based out of Binghamton also.
