Hello all,



I have always taken good care of my cars and thought that I was pretty anal about keeping them clean. And then I found this site. I am not worthy... I am not worthy.



I've got a couple of questions maybe someone can help me out with. On a car I just bought, I noticed that it has some wax on the plastic trim parts. What is the best way to remove it? Does anyone have any experience with products from Griots? I have a couple of their catologs and it looks like they have some pretty interesting products. Or are they the Sharper Image of auto detailing? I have seen some pretty interesting product write up's on the board but can't find them anywhere. Is it best to order on line or does anyone know of a specialty store in the Cincinnati area for detailer's. Also, does anyone have any good tips on cold weather washing?



It looks like I am ready to jump head first into the detailing insanity.

Trust me: if it can be sprayed, glopped, poured, rubbed, wiped, buffed, polished, baked, lubricated, etc. -- somebody here has tried it.



Unfortunately I have no experience with Griots, but I have seen it mentioned before. I know someone loved the glass polish anyway. There was a post in the last couple of days about Meguir's Gold Class Trim Detailer removing wax residue.

Well, I have found that most stores in Cincinnati totally stink. You can't find much of anything around here so you will probably have to order most stuff. Some of the places I buy from are:

For removing wax on black trim: Smooth peanut butter. Wipe it on let it sit for a few minutes and wipe it off and presto the wax is gone. :up

I am in Bridgetown on the west side of Cincy. There are a few people from Cincy on this board. Wolfsburg and Ron Ketcham are also from Cincinnati :up
 
2008 Ford F-250 FX4, 26k miles.

Belongs to the client's son.

It was given a basic detail, the bed was cleaned up as well.

I started by sweeping out the bed of all dirt and debris, then rinsed it out with water really well, and finally foamed it up with 5oz of Meguiars Deep Crystal Car in my foam gun and the rest filled up with water.

I agitated with a long stiff bristled broom. The sides and tighter areas were agitated with a tire brush.

I cleaned the wheels, tires, and wells with Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner and DC car wash in my foam gun. The rinsed.

I then rinsed off the body of the truck, and foamed a section of the truck down one at a time with 3oz of Super Soap and 3oz of NXT Car Wash in my foam gun topped with water.

I also added a couple oz of solution to my rinse bucket which had a grit guard inserted.

My choice of wash media was a Meguiars white microfiber wash mitt.

I also sprayed down the front of the truck with Body Solvent to aid in bug removal.

I gave the truck a final rinse and then sheeted the water off, pulled it in the garage and then dried it with some Water Magnets.

I started by giving the interior carpet and cloth seats a good vac.

I then cleaned all hard surfaces with APC, cotton towels, and various brushes.

I dressed the interior with Quik Interior Detailer.

All vents and crevices were brushed out.

Glass cleaned inside and out with Quik Glass Cleaner.

The jambs were wiped clean with APC followed by Last Touch.

The bed was dressed with Meguiars M40 and the toolbox was wiped down with some Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

All exterior trim pieces were dressed with Meguiars Ultimate Protectant.

Tires were dressed with Meguiars M40, the wells were dressed with Hyperdressing at 2:1.

The paint was clayed with Meguiars Mild Blue Clay and Last Touch at 1:1.

I applied some Meguiars M20 Polymer Sealant with my PC to all the paint and chrome.

I finished a bit late so a couple after shots late in the evening is all I have.

Very nice looking truck Nick. Job well done Da Rules!

Now, I must get ouside and get back to work. I am working on a Chevy Silverado that just came in from hunting (mudville/doghairville) Da Rules!

I will use this thread to give me inspiration Da Rules!
 
Really nice results Nick. It's only since I recently visited the US that I have a true appreciation for the size of these vehicles, and the amount of respect you are due for the results you get with them.

Flash, what year is the Silverado?

Regular, Extended or Crew Cab?

08...white in color...4 door w/matching topper...4wd...loaded...all options on this one...sad thing is, it will be back in the mud Saturday Da Rules!
