2008 BMW 328 (Zaino vs. older deatil)

Hey guys. I re-detailed my 3 series. Heres the process:

1. Wash

2. Clayed (I had done this 3 months ago)

3. BF SRC FP via CCS White & PC (settings 3 and 6)

4. Z5(w/zfx) via CCS Black & PC (settings 1)

5. Another layer of Zaino

6. Didn't have enough z5 left in the bottle, so I mixed Z5 with A LOT of Z8 and applied

(Notice the reflection of the grass in the bellow pics... not bad for a silver car)

OLDER DETAIL - These are to be compared to my previous detail. Procedure:

1. CLay

2. kAIO

3. kSG

4. 2x Natty Blue (all by hand)

My thoughts on Zaino:

I feel that Zaino is a really refined product. The over all look is very clear, crisp, smooth, etc. The BF SRC FP & Z5 combo offered great reflectivity (at least as good as it probably gets with a silver car) and the metallic flake pop is excellent. The car has achieved that "extra clear coat layer" look, as if a layer of gelly was smoothed over the vehicle.

However, this is all only evident to the trained eye. To everyone else, my car just looks REALLY clean and shinny. Thus, I am some what disappointed in the Z5. Its not that I'm concerned of other's opinions, but rather I don't want to have to look hard at my car to truly appreciate how good it looks. I don't want to have to inspect the flake or look at it twice. 6 hours of detailing and I do NOT want to have to look at my car twice to really get a feel for it.

So, I'm thinking I may add another 2 layers, and possibly a glaze and Pete's 53 on top of that. Because to be honest, the wetness of 2x natty blue is more eye catching then the refined gloss of 2.5x Z5.

How long before the Z8 wears off and I can layer stuff again? I can put a glaze and wax over Zaino correct?

Opinions?

If you check out the Zaino facts it mentions that all of their products are intermolecular bonding (can be layered). I'd leave it about 24hrs to be safe and then go to town.

Both look really good. :)

Try using Z8 the next couple times you wash and if that doesn't get you the look you are after, then go with Natty's Blue.

Correct me if I'm wrong Scott, but adding a layer of NB while enhancing the look would prevent a future addition of Z5 without going back to ZAIO to remove the NB right?

I love Zaino and and it's what I use 90% of the time but I have to be honest. I don't really think there is a difference in shine or depth if you have 3 layers of Zaino or 10. I think we like to think there is but I personally don't think so.

Looking awesome, I've been looking at the 328i coupe as well for my wife. I think she likes it. Didn't know you could already order the 2008 though, I was at the dealership and they were still taking orders for the 2007???

And is that your missus hiding behind the big glasses?

so how do you like that blackfire polish? the results look great to me. :)

The BF SRC was probably the most distinguished part of this detail. If only you could see how well it reflected when sun was directly shinning on it. Careful though, this stuff eats right through conventional clear coats!

Sorry meant to put 2007, not sure why I put 2008 but I guess its attracting more people to my post so I"ll leave it :grinno:

BTW - 328 is fantastic. I owned the previous three series, and test drove the new A4 and C320... no comparisons (imho). Offers enough prestige to compete with Benz and far greater ergonomics to supersede Audi... again imho.

Car looks great Dan!

If you are looking for that extra boom then I would honestly learn the rotary and step up to SIP also. This is where I get the full depth and clarity out of paints. With the rotary I can tweak Menzerna to it's max peak level. With a pc you are honestly very limited to how far you can bump the finish. I have done both methods side by side and the rotary side is night and day difference. If you ever buy a rotary, I will give you some lessons:grinno:

Also, I use CS after Z5 and to my eyes, it really makes a big difference after 6 hours after it bonds with Z5. Then I top with Z8 after for eye popping thick gloss.:shocked

Your car looks excellent though and I love that color!!!!! I can't wait to get my hands on a 328 that color to detail. :grinno:
