2007 Range Rover Correction by Richie's Custom Detailing

You may remember me crying over my vert getting whacked in the parking lot this weekend. The guy backed into my passenger door and cracked the paint (and the door itself a little I found out later). He also marred the hell out of it with his filthy mud encrusted bumper.



What do you think of my buddy Dana's work? They repaired and repainted the passenger door. The major damage was about 1 foot to the front of the door handle, about two thirds the way up on the door and was about 18 inches long.
 
Dana said all I have to do is wait 30 days before putting any wax on it. I told him I use Zaino, and he said it would be OK to put it on right away - probably. But he would wait 30 days for the new clear to fully cure. So I am.

Me neither. Looks absolutely perfect. Dana said I need to check for swelling, which may cause a hair-line crack in the paint at some point. They had to use a plastic repair compound (did somebody say Bondo???, no I didn't THINK so...) and it may expand/contract at a different rate. He said they don't use it very often because they usually replace the entire body panel when it is cracked like mine was. But it was a very small crack, and didn't even go all the way through. So this was the best cosmetic fix he could do - otherwise he would have had to feather in paint to the surrounding panels, essentially repainting about 1/2 the car. YIKES!
 
Very nice work (at least to my eyes). I am looking to have my Camaro SS re-painted sometime soon. If he was local I would take my car to him in a heartbeat.



If you don't tell people your car was hit they'd never know. Let's keep it an Autopia secret.:bounce

That's another reason to buy a car in a "solid" color versus heavy metallics or pearls...
 
well, i, and i'm sure many other folks on this board, pride themselves on being able to spot bodywork that is only 99% or less than perfect. especially on side doors with their compound curves. your car looks perfect to me. i would never suspect that there was any damage done to it. looks great! :xyxthumbs
 
It's such a relief to have it back. The paint guy said he was extra careful to get the orange peel to match the factory paint. They used some sort of German paint, can't remember the name of it. Torch Red is the GM color, and it is one of the easier ones to match. They didn't even paint the whole door, but they did shoot the entire door with clear.
 
great 'patch' job. Now for the flame war to begin. You say that the door currently has NO Zaino on it, I assume the rest of the car does. I cannot tell the difference in the shine from the door to the rest of the car........but I'm sure zaino does make a difference....
