2007 Mustang GT - going retro!

I just detailed my Mustang yesterday, and thought I'd share the results with everyone!

Here's the process I used:

Washed with GC shampoo

Clayed with Meg's Smooth Detail Kit

Polish/clean with M80 Speed glaze & 8006 polishing pad on my PC 7424

NXT 2.0 with the PC 7424 & 9006 finishing pad

Removed excess with microfiber towel

I also applied a Duplicolor Tire Pen to the raised white lettering on the tires, to give it a touch of that retro look. I've got to say, I really like it! (Although, I would NOT recommend it to anyone unless they want to spend a good 6 hours doing it; I was doing it from 12pm until 4pm yesterday, and then from 11 am until 1 pm today, and I still think I could do a little touch-up on the tires)

Here we go:

(I know there's dirt on the tire where some cleaner ran down; I was still waiting for the paint to dry in this picture, and I have since cleaned it and put some tire dressing on the tire)

For NXT 2.0 being an OTC, I'm REALLY, REALLY happy with the results! The car's paint just looks like it's POPPING, and even though the car is still fairly new, I'm impressed with the products I used!

Man, that looks so sharp. I just love the classic white lettering... brings back memories of Eagle ST's I had on my '64 Buick Skylark. I'm just afraid that I don't have a steady enough hand to make them look as good as you have.

How long do you have to let the Duplicolor dry before you can drive?

sah-weet!

My 2006 'Stang GT is the same color... now that the snow is gone and the DPW is sweeping the sand and salt off the roads, it's time to take her out!

Where did you get that white lettering pen? I need to get some for the tires on my wife's SUV!

Probably from here...Duplicolor Hot Tires

I read some tips on using this stuff on another board. The guy there said to clip off the end of the tube and use a very small modeling-type paint brush to apply it. Then you crimp and roll the end of the tube so it doesn't dry up. Apparently, it's much easier to apply with a paint brush than the applicator Duplicolor provides.

Man, it looks good.

Uhm...Maybe 1/2 an hour? It really depends on how thick you put it on. It's kind of like a latex paint that you're putting on the tire, and if it's warm, it dries pretty quickly (in fact, I was kind of fighting that when I was putting it on yesterday, since it was kinda warm - today was cooler with a little bit of overcast, and I put 2 THIN layers on instead of globbing it on like I did yesterday).

And don't sweat it if you don't have a really steady hand. If you were to get up close and look at the tires, you'd see that I didn't have as steady a hand as I'd have liked; I ended up coming back over it where it ran with a round toothpick & scraped it off.

Yep, that's the very pen I used! :) I managed to do the application from the tube itself, and in some ways I wish I'd had a brush to do it with instead of the pen, but I didn't have anything I could use. :( I just used a very steady hand and dabbed it on there as carefully as I could.

Nice stang man! not a good family car though I got one to detail soon and I've rode in it already man there is no leg room in the back but the sound system in the back is like a massage when it's cracked up.

Nice move on the tire makes'em stand out more.
