Folks,

I finally broke down and got a toy. Been searching for a low mileage car and this one had only 7,415 miles on it.

I started detailing the car right away but did not do any buffing until a couple of weeks ago.

There was a recent thread about the pinhole dots left on horizontal surfaces after polishing and this car has plenty of them on the hood. Not sure how to get rid of them so trying to ignore until the car is completely buffed. The plan is to take my time and buff a fender here and there. So far I am guessing about 80% to 90% correction. After the car is done I will do a final buff on the whole thing and seal with Opti-Coat.

Please remember that I am using products that are already in the closet. Three closets contain products and I am not buying anything else until everything is gone. The buffer is a Flex 3401 and I love this machine.

I started off by taping a few sections on the hood and buffing test spots until the best combination was discovered.

So, here it is....
Yellow CCS 6.5 inch pad with Menzerna SIP. White CCS pad with Menzerna Super Finish. This is followed with a Gray CCS 6.5 inch pad with Menzerna PO85RD. Passes were not counted. Instead I just watched how the product was performing and stopped to check the process frequently.

Forgot to mention the car was washed with Optimum car wash and then clayed. The pictures tell the story about how well the paint was maintained. Optimum No Rinse was utilized for the clay lube and the clay bar is DP Universal Detailing Clay .
Let me know what you think about it so far.

Looks super your ride there, did you get a chance to clay bar the paint? if you did then any of those so call pinholes dots were remove?

I think it looks GREAT! Congrats on the new car. The pinhole dots are usually the result of sand blasting and generally cannot be removed via polishing or normal paint correction.
 
Wow Dave thats some dirty clay. I think between your closet and mine you'll find the right combo. Todd I was thinking they could possibly be from swirl o matic brush car washes. I know the dealer where my BMW came from uses one and I have a few in the hood of my car also. The tips of the brushes slap the paint as they come around if there is anything stuck in it there goes the paint.

Ron, that is a real good possibility. Even though this is a low mileage car, the paint is in worse shape that my ten year old Ford truck.

Yesterday I buffed both front fenders using the same polish and pad combo as used on the hood. This time one fender was buffed with the Makita and finished with the Flex and the other was buffed utilizing the Makita only. Pictures will be posted once I can get some sun shots.

I really appreciate all the feedback.
