pros and cons ??

i just test drove a 2007 honda civic SI four door sedan. this one would be equipped with the 197 hp VTEC engine, with six speed, and navigation system. i'm interested in comments on any known problems with these cars, or any reliability issues.

anybody have one of these? if so, are you happy with it?

i'll trade in my wife's '01 vw passat v6 sedan w/120K miles to get this car, with the intention of keeping it for six years or so.

we test drove a rallye red one. there was also a black one on the lot that we're interested in. anybody got a good photo of a black one? if so, please post them up.

thanks

as a 7thgen civic 03 owner (i'm sure the 8thgen is no exception), i would have to say that they're one of the best bang for the bucks out there (require very little maintenance), and not to mention they hold their resale value very well (what honda civic haven't you've seen that has over 100,000+ miles and still runs like a champ!). i'm sure you will have to run premium gas for the v-tec engine, so take that into consideration as well... here's a thread about everyone's take on both honda and toyota on their good and bad points... http://autopia.org/forum/car-driver/62967-honda-toyota.html?highlight=honda

p.s. i was going to trade in the vic for an SI, but chose to keep it and wait till the 08 honda accord comes out, by then my car will be paid off :woohoo: ...

I have a '06 Si coupe in black. Love it to death. It's nice as a DD and the K-series engine is pretty versatile. It can be tame when farting around town but very gratifying when pushed. As was mentioned earlier, it does require premium (91 or higher) but I've averaged about 28 mpg with 95% city driving. As far as reliability is concerned it’s a Honda so no complaints there. In the end, it’s about the best all around bang for the buck you’ll find. Just my $.02.

You never got what I meant...Im saying it looks very similar to a Tiburon. It looks like what an updated Tiburon should look like, not an Accord.

I just test drove the Si sedan while waiting for my ridgeline to be serviced. The shifter was nice and its quite a nice car for the $$$. It just didnt have much punch, I was disappointed with the performance. I am sure after breakin things will loosen up a bit. The changeover with the vtec is really cool.

Never liked the accord 2 door. The 4 door is what I am waiting for ;)

The Civic Si doesn't do one thing amazingly well but does everything well. Its like Honda hit the center of the dart board dead on. But some people may want a little more torque, or tighter handling, etc. Thats where the extensive Honda aftermarket comes in :)

thanks for all of the comments. although probably not the car that i would pick for myself, my wife seems pretty interested in it. i appreciate the reliability comments as i anticipate that several years down the road this could become a commuter car for my then college age son.

Hello, billscamaros. I'm new here but I'm no stranger to the detailing world. I have had an 06 Civic Si for over a year now (coupe). And coming from a 2000 Corvette (looooong story), I must say that this car, at first, did not really wow me right away. However, having spent a bit of time in it now, I love it. The comments about the lack of torque are true and that took some getting used to. The handling, braking, and power (high in the rpm's, of course) are pretty impressive though.

The only problem I have sometimes, is the tendency for the car to make noises when its cold. There are small...rattles, I guess or squeeks or something inside the car when it's 30 degrees outside. The noise comes from the headliner in my car. Others on a Civic Si forum also report similar noises.

Oh, and I almost forgot about the paint. It definitely leaves more to be desired in that area. Honda paint is not very good. Upon taking delivery of the car, I noticed almost unnoticeable waves in the paint. And there's a whole lot of orange peel. More than usual anyway.

All in all, I couldn't think of any other new car in this price range that I would rather have, even after having it for over a year. It really is a great car. Hope that helped.

thanks. i'll probably go look at the one that i drove again, and will try to pay better attention to the paint quality.

you mention a civic si forum .... what is the address for that? hearing what the owners say is always a good thing.

lol I like coupes but I have a 4 door Gen7. I really like the look of the gen7 coupe. I'm kind of neutral on this new redesign, I like how aggresive it looks, but the rear is ugly...the 4 doors in the Gen7 got ugly lights until more recently.

:( the rear light more or less remind me of that the Saturn Aura :wall

The first link brings you to a pretty decent forum, ClubSi - a lot of people post with useful info. However, many of them can be very immature in their posts.

The second link is more generally focused on the Civic and not just the new Si but still has good information as well.

Anyway, here is a picture of my car from a few months back after a couple coats of Z2Pro. I have since somewhat jumped off the Zaino bandwagon just because there's so much stuff out there to try. Oh, yeah, the tires were dressed after that picture was taken by the way.

I was also looking at getting one of these, but they are still somewhat expensive, and I hate the dash. I do love the K20 though, as that is an awesome motor. Ended up with my Spec V instead, for about 10k dollars less.

I've had a black '06 Si Coupe for about six months. I can say nothing bad about the car whatsoever. Maybe my standards are not as high as some others here, or maybe I just got an exceptionally good finish on my car, but I find that my car looks fantastic when cleaned up and out in the sun. No doubt there are other cars that perform better or do this or that better, but I'd suggest that you be hard pressed to find one in this price category. I love the Si and I'd recomend it to anyone looking for a good dollar to fun ratio in a car.
