2007 Dodge Ram Post-Snowstorm Cleanup

Howdy, y'all, it's been awhile since I posted anything here. On Sunday night and Monday morning a half-foot of snow hit this area. I drove around quite a bit on Monday, and the salt and melting snow really did a number on my Dodge Ram 2500. It was killing me to see my truck so dirty, and could hardly wait to clean it up today!



Unfortunately it got cloudy so the after pics aren't so great, but you get the idea.



Process:

scrub tires, wheels, wheel wells with Purple Power diluted about 2:1

wash with DP Auto Bath Shampoo (one of those "Free Gift from Max" deals)

dry with MF

FK1 425 wipe down

Meguiar's Hyper Dressing diluted about 3:1 on tires, trim, wheel wells

Deep Chrome on bumpers and wheels

Thanks! Actually, the wheel wells are fairly new. Those Ram trucks come from the factory with front wheel well liners, but nothing in the rear wheel wells. The rear liners are about $90 from Mopar Accessories. I just put them on a few months ago. They do clean up nicely!

What did you make of the car shampoo; slick? Good cleaner? And would you pay for money for it?

I think the DP Auto Bath Shampoo works very well. It is similar to the Griot's Garage Car Wash, which is what I normally use. I would buy the DP product by the gallon if it was less expensive than the Griot's. Sometimes Griot's has a sale of the gallon-size products and I can get a gallon of Car Wash for $35.

I ordered mine from Dodge in March 2007, so I got one of the first 6.7L Cummins to come out of the factory. I was part of the beta test for the Edge Juice w/Attitude box for the 6.7, but I took it off after a few months because it seemed to be clogging up the diesel particulate filter and causing me problems. Once the warranty is up I will probably get one of those "DPF delete kits" and remove all that crap, then reinstall the Edge box. I also have a Line-X spray-in bed liner, and a Grover air horn with Viair compressor.
 
Well the truck definately looks great, getting rid of the DPF is a great idea it'll be more reliable and get much better fuel mileage. The new 6.7's are definately torque monsters, we have a stock 05 here. Once the tranny goes it'll get built and then it'll get a smarty box. Oh well Good work!
 
Very tidy example! I have a 2004 model of you truck and find that cleaning up that large tailpipe makes a big difference in overal appearance.



Nice work keeping the wheel wells clean!

What do you suggest for cleaning up the tailpipe? I usually just scrub it with Purple Power when I am cleaning the wheels. It's a stainless steel pipe that had a black finish applied at the factory that has somewhat burned off. Would you sand and polish it, or what?
 
For my exhaust I painted it with Flat black barbque stove paint. It has been holding up pretty well for a few months now. I would sand it down a bit and hit it with something like that.

Regarding the tailpipes, here are things I typically do...



On polished pipes, something like Meguiar's 105 or 205, with a foam applicator or a Mother's Powerball Mini works well.



On the regular, non polished pipes, 0000 Steel Wool with a metal polish works well. If there is a lot of soot on the pipe, sometimes I'll spray the pipe with WD40 and let it dwell. I'll then reapply WD40 to the pipe, AND spray a piece of 0000 Steel Wool with WD40 and use the steel wool on the pipe. Lastly, wipe the residue away with a towel.
 
Nice Tank! Did you hand apply the Meg's Hyper-Dressing or use some sort of sprayer? That Hyper-Dressing looks great in the wheel wells
