I was one of Autopia's first customers way back in the old days, even before they hooked up with CMA. One of the first things I bought was Miracle Towels.

Miracle Towels have <strong class='bbc'>ALWAYS[/b] left traces of fiber. I first noticed and wrote about it ages ago. They leave teeny weeny fibers behind almost impossible to see. The most noticable place is the windshield. The "rough" and "sticky" (compared to waxed surfaces) surface of the glass pulls out more of the hairs and makes it more noticable. If you get in the right light you can see them.

Many people have just discovered this trait and figured it's a defect or bad batch of towels. <strong class='bbc'>NOT TRUE[/b]. All microfiber towels can leave fiber traces. MT are so much plusher and have so many more threads that it is more noticable.

Will this eventually "thin" the towel to the point where it is less effective? Sure, maybe. But my towels have been in daily use and weekly washes for years. They take a beating on my 4 cars. Trust me, they are still good as new and no doubt the best towels I have. I got my moneys worth out of them long ago.

Good info Brad. I only use MT towels on the paint and cotton towels on the wheels and tires. Can't see myself going back to cotton towels. Personally I like the MT towels CMA and Neatitems sells.
 
I have 2 of these MT from CMA and if it was just a few tiny threads here and there I would not have a problem. The ones i have leave behind so many threads that it looks like a lot of little scratches. I have had cotton towels that have left less lint then these. For $12 a piece this unexceptable.
 
Does this occur on the glass only or on the painted area of the car as well? If it's only the glass, try using the less plush side of the MT. I've found that it actually works better on glass than the fluffy side anyway. I only use a water/vineger mix for cleaning glass and have had no problem at all with "fiber fallout". If this is happening on the painted area of your car, you may have something else going on that's causing it.

Ya so what if there are a few fibers left behind - compared to any cotton towel I ever used - it is nothing - and why should I care cause those fibers will just blow off my just finished (cleaned, polished and waxed surface anyways that's the test if is clean) My feelings are there is not a really bad MICRO out there compared to cotton , MT is the ONE, but compared to cotton there is no going back - MICROFIBRE technology is the only way to go. MTS

Interesting post. Personally, I never noticed. However, I have noticed that my MTs are only good for about 50-75 uses, depending on what I use them for. After that, they seem to lose their effectiveness, and I toss them in the shop rag pile. That means they cost about 20 cents per use. All-in-all, I still think it's a good product for what it does, and it really saves on glass cleaner.

I only use these one on the paint. Ihave not tried them on the glass. I have some cheaper MF towels I use on the glass. I paid $20 for 50 of them from a friends mom. I tried these ons on the paint and they left no fibers behind.

I have never had anything like this with my cotton towels.

I bought these because every post I read said they were lint free, these are by no means lint free.
 
One of the main frustrations I have with the two new MT towels I just ordered is that they seem to grip the paint. If I use the first MT I bought a couple of months ago, it just glides over the same spot that the new MTs will hang on. Kinda feels like there is no wax on the car when using the new MTs. Its really a pain because I loved using them to finish drying the car, these new ones feel like I am using a rubber mat(exagerated, but only a little).
 
Good point Henry. You need to moisten the MTs. If I'm quick detailing that means shooting some quick detailer on the painted surface AND the MT itself. If you're drying a vehicle there's nothing wrong with squirting the towel with some quick detailer to moisten it up a bit as well. This is the safest way to use it. Trust me. Laters.
 
Ok, more weirdness.



I have noticed the small fibers some MTs leave behind (yes, they look like fine scratches, I nearly dies the first time I saw them).



Here's the weird part. On the 2 towels I have that exhibit this the most, it only happens when the towel is slightly damp - like when I use them to remove QD. They get really "grippy" and I can almost feel the fibers pulling from them (well, that's the association I make now, anyway).



I tried gliding these 2 towels over the surface with the same pressure when dry - no grippiness, no lint.



So, this is backwards from what some other folks are seeing.



If they don't get better with washing I'm going back to cotton. I end up wiping everything twice with them, once to remove the QD, and then with a dry one to remove the microfibers.

...Polish with M205, LC White Pad
...Apply 1 coat of Z5P with Red Finishing Pad
...Apply 1 coat of Z8.
...Vacuumed/Cleaned/Conditioned interior CG VRP
...Cleaned interior glass with Sprayway
...Removed water spots from exterior glass with One Grand Special Touch
...Clean wheels Purp Power/Apply Zaino Clearseal
...Condition tires with Poorboys B&B

I'm post whoring so much I replied with the answer to this thread with a thread I thought was about the hardest paint they had dealt with :redface:
