This customer contacted me prior to purchasing this vehicle and set up a date to have the car done the right way from the start since he wanted to maintain it himself. After a pre detail evaluation with the customer I told him that a 2 step polishing would be needed in order to remove 95% of the defects. Also before any work was done, a close friend of mine who owns a PDR business came over and pulled out a few small dents upon customer request.
Knowing the history of these Mitsubishi's I was expecting soft to medium clear. Well, to no surprise that's exactly what we got.
So after the PDR was done, I started with the decontamination phase and the wheels/tires. Although the owner told the dealership to not touch the car in any way, they never listen so I took the appropriate steps to assure a full and true correction would be revealed.
However I did not document this car with photo's as I should of because I only had 1 day with the car.
For the wheels I used Chemical Guy's Sticky Wheel Gel and for the tires and wells I went with Chemical Guys Grime Reaper. The CGGR really penetrates and loosens the grime and makes for easier cleaning.
Although the wheels were not that bad, I gave them a thorough cleaning and then sealed them.
Using this combination is safe for all finishes.
Now I can't blame this on the dealership because the previous owner could of done this before trading the car in but there were signs of protection on the car that needed to be stripped prior to claying and polishing.
To remove any protection, I used Chemical Guys Citrus Wash - N - Gloss at 2oz/per gallon. This took off a majority of the protection and I knew the clay and IPA wipe downs would remove the remaining. After claying with DI fine grade clay and 2 91% IPA wipe downs, a clean and true surface was revealed.
I used the flash of the Nikon and the halogens to try and show the defects.
The polishing steps consisted of:
Menzerna SIP via Orange LC Pad
Menzerna 106FA via Black LC Pad
Then as always to help clean the paint and prep for the sealant, I used CG EZ Creme Glaze with a fresh black pad @ speed 6 on the PC.
The sealant of choice for this particular vehicle was Blackfire Wet Diamond.
