2004 Silver 350Z - detail for resale

Today's detail was to clean up a 2004 Sivler 350Z that was purchased by my client to resell. Mostly just a grungy interior and some dull paint that needed to be spruced up.



This car has beautiful lines IMO ... not too practical for a family guy like myself but fun to work on. Color is a little too "bland", but it cleaned up nicely.



After a full wash and clay, I went old school and hit it with M80 followed by M16. Client didn't want to pay for multi-step polish and the paint color tended to de-empahasize the existing minor swirls too.



Sorry about the pics, the sun just isn't coming out on this cloudy/rainy SC weekend. At least the drought is over and groundwater levels are rising so I suppose the rain is good for something.

I only clean the outside of wheels in my standard detail ... removal and cleaning the inside of wheels is an upcharge.

Why is the inside of the wheels extra? Grab both the Mini and Full Size EZ Detail brush to use with your wheel cleaner and give your customers car a proper wheel treatment. Granted not all wheels will be perfect without removing, but most of the time you can get great looking wheels without removing. If I were a customer, I would be upset about the inside of the wheels not being done. Great job on the paint, looks glossy!

Because you have to draw the line somewhere, and that's where I choose to draw mine. To do it right you need to remove the wheels or you're not going to get a complete job as you also implied in your comments. So, I stop at the wheel face for standard details and offer removing the wheels as an upcharge. To be honest, in 5 years I think only 2 customers wanted to have the wheels removed.

Every customer is different, that's my point... most are not looking for the kind of Autopian detail nor are they wanting to pay for it. In this case of being a resale, they basically only wanted the car "cleaned up" .... not a Concours Detail package.



To each his own .... it's not always Autopian way or the high way.

I use the the least aggressive method a common mistake among rookies. Would you not agree that the car looked good for what they did?
 
The car looks good...everyone needs to stop being so critical of this guy. The owner didn't want to pay a ton of money to get the car detailed...id say it looks 100% better that it did, the interior was ridiculous. Good job on the detail.

Thanks for the kind words, but I don't let the criticisms bother me too much. :)



The detail was far from perfect, I'll be the first to admit it but I'm confident I was on the same page as the client's expections which I believe I more than met. Car looked great and the customer left happy.



There will always be those on these forums who focus on the glass being half empty instead of half full and will point out flaws which are always there in a less than perfect world if you go looking... that's just life.



This forum is for sharing all points of view and I usually try to learn something from all perspectives whether compliments or criticisms. :hifive:



I always ask the client how much improvement/perfection they want, always try to explain the benefit, but in the end it's their decision not mine. This client specifically told me that this car didn't need any additional exterior work other than a basic clean up and that he was most concerned with me focusing on the interior.



Seeing the car with my own eyes and looking at the photos, I know the before and after reflect good value for the client's expectations. I think sometimes people try to sell more than the client wants or needs or offer only high end details, but that's their approach so that's fine for them. To each his own I suppose.

thats all you can ask for. If the client is happy, nothing else matters.
 
nice!!! on the before pic of the driver door panel it looks like the paint is scratched on the handle, did you paint it or did it just clean up?

Am I the only one here who seems to realize the difference between the words mutilate and multiple?



Reading this makes want to go multiple mutilate victims.
