2004 Sentra Spec-V

I recently got a 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.:) 2000 miles on it with the custom swirlmarks from the dealer :mad: . Well to make a long story short I plan on taking out the swirl marks with a PC but don't own one yet. My mother said she would buy one for me because she wants me to be happy with the new car, and plus I also mentioned it would help me detail her 3.0 Z3:D . Anyway I think im gonna get the Sonus PC kit because I still need to do the math but it comes with some pads and the backing pad.



My question is that those pads are so expensive do they hold up a long time? My friend uses LC pads I think he said and he said that just to make sure I use to blue painters tape to tape up the black trim to make sure I don't get black on my pads.



The swirl marks look very light but they are everywhere. I will try #9, and then maybe #81 or something with the polishing pad which i think should do it.



What does everyone think? Will try to get a pic of the sentra soon. Just want to know about the PC right now.

The Sonus pad kit here on Autopia is a good way to go, it includes quality pads along with the correct backing plate. LC and Meg's also makes good pads, but simplify your life and order the Sonus kit. With proper care the pads will last a long time. I wouldn't use painters tape to keep black off the pads so much as to keep product (polish, wax, etc.) from staining the trim.



A good choice to clean up light swirls is #80 on a polish pad. If the swirls are worse than you think and #80 doesn't get them out after 3 or 4 applications then move up to DACP (#83) on a polish pad. If you use #83 then you may need to follow up with #80 again, maybe not, you'll just have to judge how the finish looks.



From the above example you can see where it may be handy to order an extra polish (green) pad. Good luck!
 
Thanks I really appreciate it. I need to order a couple green pads extra then but stuff is just so expensive I wish a local store sold them. Parents don't like to use the internet that much to order stuff.



Hey MONK_04SER thanks ill check out b15sentra.net I currently am on the VBoard but a lot of guys there are jerks. But I guess you can find jerks on any forum (except autopia) so peaceful I LOVE IT!
 
if you take care of your pads properly, they should last. and if you want to find products and pads locally, you could try looking for a store that sells meguiar's products and pads, usually an auto body shop is a good place to start.



what Elliot Ness said is good advice, #80 works quite well on light swirls. #9 and #81 might be too mild for the swirls that usually come from the dealer.

good choice on pads, I just used my pc with sonus pads for the first time the other day and they are great. As far as extra pads go a extra green and blue would be a great idea, good luck and congrats on the new car.

LOL! You have no idea!!! Enjoy the Spec! A forewarning though...Nissan paint is horrific. I've had my '04 since August of '03 and the black paint looks like it's 5 years old. That's why I'm here though, trying out the 7336 next week :)



There is so much good info on this forum that it can be overwhelming. Just set aside about 4 months and start reading.
 
I just finished (sorta) detailing my STi.



after a wash and clay, I started immediately w/ the DACP on a yellow forest country pad, then moved to the #80 on the white FC pad, and finally AIO on the grey FC pad. last step was a coat of HGSG.



I was using my friend's PC and pads, so I didn't have a coice, but if I was to do it again, I would've gone with a cutting pad like the sonus orange.



just look at your paint, are they jsut light swirls? in my experience tonight, anything more than just very light swirls will having you working hard w/ #80... I didn't even get out all the etchings in my paint, mostly becasue I didn't see thm in the cruddy parking garage lighting. but the whole polishing part took me 4 hrs.



a microfiber bonnet would've helped a lot in removing the residue from the #83 and AIO though, so I strongly suggest you get a few..

My Nissan paint is 10 years old and looks like it should be on an '04. :cool:



It seems to chip very easily though.
