11.7 @ 117mph on stock tires :cool:. Owner showed me the time slip before I hit the road.



Hauling the family around in style. This 2004 is originally owned and in great shape. Mild to moderate bonded contaminants, minor swirling, minor soiling; plenty of time to get very involved in areas that don't usually see a lot of attention. Unfortunately, the rain rolled in during polishing and hindered my after shots.

- CG VRP cut 2:1 on wells

8Banger: I use about 3 parts soap: 1 part water. I'm not sure where this falls vs. other soaps, but I'm on a bit of an eco kick and can't see ordering (for instance) a gallon of CG Soap and paying $14 to ship it to CT. I purchased 2 gallons of ICE locally for $7 a pop. It should last me quite a while. Smells great too :).



Stanger'66: I lightly misted the engine with water, then liberally sprayed Eimann Fabrik Hi Intensity APC cut 6:1 on everything. I used a little Hi-Temp Tire Cleaner cut 1:1 on the heavily grimed hoses. From there I used various brushes and a solution of Dawn to agitate. Lightly hosed down the compartment, shut the hood, and let idle for 15 mins. Wipe dry, saturate with Chemical Guys VRP cut 2:1 and at the end of the detail, a final dry MF wipedown.
 
Turtle Wax Ice...no kidding? :)



Excellent job - I'll be doing a silver E320 next month and you've certainly provided inspiration. Nothing to do with your detail efforts, so my apologies for the tangent, but I'm having trouble reconciling the word, "stock," with "11.7 @ 117mph." :D

Just curious, how do you like Z5 on silver compared to Z2? I have never used Z5 on a light color before. I tend to use Z2 in lighter colors.

Justin: For the price, it's hard to complain. I wouldn't use it as a premium shampoo like Z7 or Sonus, but for foaming, I'll take it.



Rick: Ironically enough, neither have I. I used it once on my late G35, but that was more of an in-between colour. As with other colours, Z5 Pro looked very wet and application/removal was a cinch, even in the moist air I was working with. If I was able to look at it in the sun, I could've commented better. I have a new company car coming in that is silver; I do plan to experiment a bit between the two, so I will surely post a new thread in the coming weeks.

people don't realize how fast the MB's can be. Each year our local club heads out to Heartland Park in Topeka, KS to go heads-up against the locals on the big drag strip on one of the open nights. It's fun to watch jaws drop as a 4-dr AMG blows away one of the local hot rods. :cool: The only other car I've ever owned that ran in the 11's was a 427 Camaro.



Outstanding work - the Zaino seems to be really great for AMG silver.



PS: Thanks for the tip on the TW Ice soap - I think when it's all said and done, soap is soap - it's what you do AFTER the wash that makes it shine. ;)
 
Nice job on the E55, you traveled all the way down to Jersey though?



FYI I've seen Turtle Wax ICE in gallon sizes for around $8 at Costco. I'll probably pick some up once my GC is finished.

karburn: I love the E55. If I could get over the mileage and sell the wife on one, I'd probably have one in the garage. With CPO'd 2004s selling for around $40k, I am hard-pressed to find more car for the money.



Johnny: Englewood Cliffs, yep. Sunday morning traffic is non-existent and on the way home, I took the TZ. Pretty simple trip, but I'd only attempt it on the weekend.



ICE is pretty good stuff. For the price, I can't see *not* at least trying it. I will give it more of a go as time passes.
