2004 4-Runner...Mine (56K...probably not)

Hey guys,

Well as promised yesterday in the post about my wifes Accord (http://autopia.org/forum/click-brag/82441-first-detail-posting-56k-beware.html) I am now ready to show off my 4-Runner that I cleaned up today. I was cruising some muddy dirt roads on a jobsite last week so it was pretty bad!

The truck got;

GC Wash (2 bucket)

Dry

Clay Magic Claybar (sucks in cold weather, good thing I found my Meg's)

Color-X

NXT

GC Liquid Wax



The wheels and tires got;

Meg's Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner

Meg's Hot Shine Tire Coating



First picture is before the second is after. I had to switch sides for the rear bumper pic because of the location of the sun.

Looks great! I love that body style 4Runner! Maybe next time try throwing some tire dressing on your wheel wells and that will really make it look hot

Back on topic-really nice wet finish on your 4-Runner. :)



I agree that claying sucks when it is cold, so hard to flatten the clay bar out properly. II have to bring mine in at night and keep it in the passenger compartment of my car when I do details so it stays at least somewhat warm.
 
I put a little but I could have used the whole car dressing those things...they are huge. I will have to get cheap stuff to use on them.

Thanks Scott. The Meguiars was a little easier to work with until I dropped it in my dirt driveway...then back to the clay magic. I put half in the truck and used half switching them to keep them warm like you said. Gotta love winter in New England!

When I started cleaning at 10am it was 34 degrees...just enough so nothing would freeze. Is there a temperature that I can use as a guide for being too cold to polish/wax?
 
You can get the V8 in the SR5, the Sport Edition and the Limited...it's an option and with the V8 it includes full-time 4WD. I have the 4.7 V8
 
Yes, messing around with clay is a pain in cold weather, and it gives me this thought.



I have a gel pack that I can either heat in the microwave, or freeze in order to apply hot or cold as needed to an aching body part (all too common nowadays).



If I try to play tennis in cold weather (just above freezing), my practice partner and I will each bring a can of tennis balls, and put them in a small cooler that has the heated gel pack inside.



We rotate the tennis balls about every 20 minutes, and it works pretty well. Hitting a tennis ball that is at ambient temperature in such weather is like hitting a brick.



Do you suppose that this would work for detailing clay, as well?
 
Yeah that would work great. I cut my bar in half and used one pieces for a little while while I left the other piece in the truck (the sun was keeping the inside of the truck warm) then I would switch and use the warm, soft one.

Thank you, I know, from this forum, that its not easy to make white look wet but I am very very happy with the way it come out. I do need to find a polish that is a little more agressive than the Color-X though.
