I hear the '55s are in
With the unusually warm weather today I prepared to clean my very dirty Malibu. I'm very pleased with how it turned out, many thanks to all the members of Autopia for their knowledge and techniques.
Sorry, no before pics as I couldn't find my camera. Did find it for the after ones though. Here's the link: http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pe_obee/my_photos
Here's the steps and products used:
1. Cleaned wheel wells with APC
2. Cleaned tires and wheelcovers with EO A2Z (works great)
3. Washed with EO Wet wash as I still had a large bottle around.
4. Clayed with Soft 99 clay and some old Wax Shop Slick Stuff detailing spray I had left over. Combo worked well together.
5. Washed car again with EO.
6. Rinsed with Mr. Clean washer on filtered water setting.
7. Dried with MF towel
8. Hand applied Klasse AIO as I really didn't have any swirls that I could find. Also I need to practice with the PC before I feel comfortable using it on my car. Removed AIO with MF.
9. Applied Klasse SG by hand. No kidding about a thin coat is the way to go, I had to use the Sonus detailing spray to remove some of the thicker areas. Wheelcovers also done with AIO & SG.
10. Applied EO Exteme Tire Detailer with tire swipe (picked this up cheap, I think EO has discountinued this) This is very oily, very much like a silicone liquid. Buffed after a while and it is a little more muted but it is shiny. A bit too bling for me I think.
11. Did black trim and tailights with TW Black Chrome. Still have an old bottle and I love this stuff. Too bad they stopped making it.
12. Glass cleaned with IG and MF.
13. Almost forgot that wheel wheels were dressed with good old AA. It really does complete the detail with them done.
14. Did final inspection and wiped any over applications of product with Sonus Detailing spray. This is a great QD, love the smell.
As I was starting to lose the light I quickly snapped some photos.
My neighbour seemed impressed, said the car looked like it was brand new. All told I put in close to 6 hours with some breaks.
Might put on another coat of SG or top it with some Caranuba, will have to see how the weather is tomorrow. I was really impressed how AIO and the SG really caused the metal flakes to pop out and the car looks so wet. The comment made that the twins make a car look like it has a candy coating really is apt.
One last item was that I had a clear bra installed a week ago and the shop did a great job. I applied the SG over it and it is hard to see where it is unless you are close to the car. The film is Avery Dennison brand. The installer likes it better than the 3M as he feels it is more scratch resistant. He has used a few different brands and this is his favourite.
Thanks for looking!
