I'm like a kid in a candy store with this forum! You are ALL very helpful! Got a question regarding polishing up stainless steel exhaust tips. Being that I live in the Northeastern US, we have a tendancy to get carried away with road salts in the fall and winter and road construction in the spring and summer... This is murder on my stainless tips (ditched chrome long ago because of this). Even though they are a durable stainless (304) the salt does put an oxidizing dullness to them and the road tar/asphalt bakes right on.
To bring them up in years past I've resorted to stripping the tar/asphalt with Xylene or Kerosine in a pinch, cleaning thoroughly with EF HI, and them break out the high-speed wheel on my griner using various grades of stainless polishing compounds (bar form). They look like new when done, but that's about 6 hours of work for 4 - 2.5"x3.5"x18" tips (you should here my wife)! Anyone have a better way or a product that would maintain them in just a few moment of use after the diehard approach? Forget Wenol here - even the red is too fine for the very hard 304SS tips that see all the dirt (works great on the nerfs and grill guards though)... No wax or sealer I know off can withstand the exhaust temps produced by those BIG V-8s, especially while towing.
Thank again!!!!!
