2000 Dropped Silverado on 20" Chromies.

A fellow local forum member asked me to detail his truck for the upcoming iLLconformity car show. I've heard lots of good and bad things about the truck.

The good: sounds wicked, is on 20' chromies, lowered 4-6 inches, and has shaved roll pan.

The bad: Needs some serious work regarding fender well clearance.

The ugly: He drys his truck with a nylon beach towel. :soscared:

I took the liberty to schedule him the day before the show (today), and I set to work at 8 am. I was rather unsure of the job I'd be able to do with the swirls, as they were the worse I've had to deal with.

Anyways, here are the results:

The during:

Processes were as follows:

Wash with industrial car wash soap. (Got it by the gallon)

SSR 2.5 x 3 on cutting pad PC

SSR 2 on polishing pad to bring back the shine. PC

Topped with NXT. (Klasse wasn't giving very good results, I really have to buy some P21S or some S100)

Rims were polished with some compound and a felt attachment with my drill.

Tires got Blackmagic Foaming Black

Trim was touched up with Natural Shine

Whole process was from 8am, till now, so what, 4 and a half hours.

As you can see, not ALL the swirls were removed, but what can you say when you're working with something like above.

Did you use a rotary? i can't imagine doing that via PC or Cyclo, even with my 9227 it'd probably take 6 hours. If you did that via PC, I'm amazed.

Yes by PC, and I have a imported TT 300ZX coming straight off the boat from Japan to my driveway in less than 20 minutes. :dance

Great work on that Silverado, I can't believe the PC was able to tackle those swirls, just goes to show what the right technique and products can do. I probably would have opted to use a rotary, but your results with the pc are simply stunning.

Nice job!!!

We have a Denali XL and I've noticed the paint is SUPER soft! You simply touch it and it will scratch. The good thing is like what you did above, the swirls will come out. The bad? It scratches easy.

But you did a great job!!! Pics of the 300zx when you're done!

The 300ZX didn't show up. I Didn't even get a phone call...he'll definatly be paying more when he makes anouther appointment... :nomore:

And yes, the paint is super soft. I couldn't wipe the polish off without swirling a little bit. I told the owner to only go to touchless washes now.

:furious:  I was looking forward seeing some pics too. If you do ever work on it, make sure you get pics.

Haha, not really. I sat on the hood for nearly 45 minutes...

With as many details as you do, you might want to consider a Cyclo if you don't want to jump into the rotary world just yet. Instead of 45 minutes on the hood (which I've done myself before), the Cyclo would have the same job done in 20-30 minutes max. :buffing:

In all honesty, if I could do this all year round, I would jump for insurance and use my rotary. But with only 2 months out of the year, its jsut not worth it to me.

Sweet work :bigups Those swirls were AWFUL.

I like the "during" shot.

Despite the heavier scratches remaining that you indicated, you did a heck of a job with the PC. Your work shows that the PC really does work well when used properly. If you have the time, technique, pad and product, anyone can end up with those results.

Now you have an excuse to bump up to the cyclo to try to get those remaining swirls :D

Thats a job to complete! its tough getting all the swirls out but if he knows how to detail a car, he could finish it off.
