1Z or Vanilla Moose?

Hey all,

I have narrowed my choices of polish down to two contenders, Klearkote Vanilla Moose or 1Z Paint Polish and/or 1Z Metallic Polish. It seems like a lot of people like the 1Z product line really well, and right now I am sorta leaning towards them since I have dark blue metallic paint and I heard the 1Z is great for darker colors.

Also, is the 1Z PP a little more abrasive than the VM? The way it looked was that the 1Z MP was about in line abrasive-wise with VM, and the 1Z PP was a step above that. I know the PP is more abrasive than the MP as it says that on the 1Z website.

I just have light swirls and scratches on my SUV, so I was wondering what you guys would recommend I choose. Keep in mind this will be a hand application, I was told both of these products were great by hand.

Thanks

People have reported that VM is abrasive. I use it on every detail and I find no abrasives whatsoever. I use VM for what its worth, An AWESOME glaze that will bring a level of depth and deepness to the paint like no other. Im sure if you pushed VM hard with a PC, you could get it to remove MINOR swirls. But not me, I use polish for that. You will get better results on the small defects with 1Z PP by hand. Good luck and post pics when done !!

I have used 1Z PP constantly. I use it with PC at 4-5. I top with NXT wax. The problem I find is that after I top with NXT, it's harder NXT to dry. It could result from the oil in the PP. I don't know if that's the case. In general, I love PP. :grrr

So far all I have used is the 1Z line, UPP/PP/MP and so far I like them. I am going to order some VM I think, as lots of people have recommended it not for polishing purposes but as mentioned, the depth it gives. However I have heard that other ClearKote products are better than VM for the same purpose on darker colored cars such as my dark blue truck? I think its the Red Moose glaze, is this true?

Thats what they are saying NorCal, but I havent tried it yet. Looking forward to it though.

WickedLTZ- The PP is a sorta-aggessive polish. On some paints it has a fair amount of bite while on others it doesn't. MP (consumer, "pink" version) is still more abrasive than VM, but nothing to worry about. Only way I can tell VM is abrasive is to use it on the Jag, and it barely cuts even *that* (very soft) paint at all. The Pro version of MP is my favorite mild polish, less wax, slightly more abrasive. None of these mild polishes (either version of MP, VM) is strong enough to remove much of anything marring-wise.

I don't wait after the 1Z polishes. The wax they leave behind can be topped immediately. Said wax is probably what is increasing the curing/drying time of the NXT that Tanat198 is topping it with. To each their own, but I'd top PP with something else myself (not implying that there's anything wrong with that combo though).

PP-MP-topper is a good combo. I find myself using (Pro) MP all the time and hardly ever using my VM, but they're two different types of products for different jobs.

As usual, I find myself agreeing 100% with Accumulator. I love 1Z polishes. This past weekend, I was unhappy with how my black Audi looked, so I went over it with MP, consumer version, and then topped with immediatley with Collinite 845 Insulator wax. Wow, other than the highway stone chips, looks as good as it ever did, and I know have 112K miles on it.

If I had only one polish to choose from, especially if I was using it with a PC or my hand, I would pick a 1Z product. I am gonna get myself some Pro MP, based on Accumulator's input. If he uses it on his wifes A8 and it's big brother S8, then it's more than enough for mine.

By the way, no issue witht he 845 curing. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. Went through a rain storm and for the first time, I gotta say my car looked newly washed after the rain. Bone dry.

Nice info Accumulator, thanks a lot. I was planning on buying the 1Z MP and PP from PakShak, do they carry the pro versions? I am set on the 1Z line now since the VM doesn't cut too well. Maybe I will look into it later for the depth-adding properties it has.

Go check out 1z online store as the pro MP will be discontinued and they are selling the remaining quanity at 1/2 price.

I received some 1Z MP (Pro) that i've been meaning to use for some time now. I was planning on doing some details with it this week, but the rain has kept me inside :furious:

IMO 1Z PP isn't too abrasive, I think something like Poorboy's SSR2.5 would be a little better for your application, but thats just me.

PakShak has the pro line, its the larger 1000mL bottles. I'd also pick up some of his MFs and take advantage of his free gift offer. ;)

The 500ml bottles is not the Pro line? How's that? Also, I don't see anything on the 1Z site about them discontinuing the MP nor anything about half price. Pakshak has it cheaper anyway.

The Pro line only comes in 1-liter cans. I saw that the Pro MP was on sale a few places (and I got a few cans) but I didn't hear anything about it being discontinued. Hmm....sure wouldn't like that. In its absence, I'd probably go with the new Menzerna stuff for Ceramiclear (forget the pn, but I mean the one with "8" and "5" in it IIRC).

Where did you find the Pro MP on sale?

What is the difference between Express Polish and WaxPolish Soft?

Sam

WickedLTZ- The Paint Polish is the same in both consumer and Pro versions, at least as best I can tell. The difference is in the Metallic. The Pro has a little more cut and a *lot* less wax (IIRC, only some synthetic, no carnauba). The consumer/pink MP has virtually no cut and has plenty of both synthetic and carnauba wax, it's a very good "cleaner wax".

SamIam- I got it HERE

I forget the diff between Express and WPS. Whenever I researched them I ended up wondering why people buy the Exress and I bought something else instead. Uhm...I think it's that the Express is almost all carnauba while the WPS has synthetic waxes in it too. I've only used the WPS. It acts sorta like a "better" consumer MP. I used it as the penultimate step on my wife's A8 (right before the #16) and it worked well. I hear it's great for hiding holograms but by the time I got to that step there weren't any (if there ever were ;) ).
