1st real wax : Prelude

Here it is.

I used Clay-Magic about 3 months ago. Just went to a local self-serve place & washed. Wiped down with Meg's #135, then tried for the first time Meg's #26 via a yellow foamy pad, & Meg's #40 on the ext. trim/seals. Final wipe down with #135. Inside i used Aerospace 303. On the tires I used Mother's FX tire, and on the lattice on the grill i used Autoglym Bumper Black. The exhaust tips i used Never-dull & Maas.

Nicely done. Car looks great. Prelude fan here, too. I've owned multiple 3rd gens and someday will get another.
 
It is a great looking Prelude!



Kudos to you for keeping it in great shape! I used to have a '93 Prelude SI and then a '97 Prelude SH. They are great cars!

It's a shame too because they are nice cars. Most of them are riced out.
 
that's true, at least around here. I see many 4th & 5th gens with multi-colored body panels and go fast wings etc. Gonna roll in OEM style....
 
Looking at your Prelude makes me want to buy another one. My last '97 SH (all stock except for the short shifter kit) was a blast to drive. I used to commute 100 miles to and from work (50,000 miles a year) and it handled it as a champ. The only thing that ever broke was the ATTS system, but it is common for these cars.



Two years ago I had a chance to buy an as new 2001 Prelude SH with 19,000 original miles for $13,000. If it was for sale by owner, I would have been all over it but it was sold by a dealer who picked it up off the auction with no history or records. It was tough but I had to pass.



They sure are great cars. I hope Honda starts making them again.

I think the double wishbone system has been abandoned by Honda completely dues to costs. Although, their F1 team still uses it I believe.



Even after almost 10 years the oem suspension still handles like a dream, that plus the steering ratio is just great on the car. It seems like too many cars allow the computer to jump in on the steering these days...



I am trying to keep the miles low on it though. It has less than 43K miles on it as I want to enjoy the car for a long time.



I wonder, since Honda has re-invented the CR-X, they might (hoping) bring the 6th gen Prelude.
 
Awee my sister used to have a Prelude with the same color until she crashed it. Car looks damn nice when detailed!

OUCH. That is sad to see! I like the colour matched sideskirts. The 4th gen looks nice in white/sleek. Did the 4th gen have the 160HP 4ws? After those 2 Preludes what car did you go to then? What LSP did you use on the 5th gen? Is that the 5th gen in the garage?
 
I know I loved my SH. At that time I was commuting 200 miles/day to work (50,000 miles a year) and it was a blast to drive.



My 4th gen didn't have 4ws, just an SI. I've heard there were some issues with 4ws.



As far as what I got after my two Preludes... After SH was crashed, I had to get something soon (used) and the only car that I was able to find that fit my budget within the time frame I had was a 2000 Toyota Celica GT.

It was not the best car I've had but not the worst. It was fun drive, didn't have much power but was very light (100 lbs more then Miata). It was unbelievably reliable. In 5 years and over 70,000 mile I had it, nothing broke. I mean nothing, just oil changes and tires. But it was no Prelude... :). The quality of interior was poor and it looked very cheep.

So, when the time came to replace Celica, I got a low milage certified pre-owned (but sold by owner) 2003 BMW 325Ci Convertible. This car has everything that Prelude had plus more. The only drawback, it is not as maintenance-free as a Prelude. I think it is a very reliable car but requires maintenance/replacement of parts that last longer or never fail on Japanese cars. But I knew that going in. That being said, this is the most fun car I've ever had and I look forward to driving it every morning I wake up and every night I leave work.



It is hard to capture this car's true color. It is Steel Grey Metallic, but in pictures it comes out rather blue.

The 3 series looks very clean. I'm bracing myself for the BMW required maintenance (cost) w/ the Mini vs. Toyota/Honda.
 
As long as you don't go to the dealer, the cost of maintenance is not that bad. Here is an example from last year when I needed 60,000 maintenance (Inspection II).



I got a quote from a local dealership for $800 with a BMW CCA discount. I ended up ordering all the parts online and doing Inspection II plus everything below at a friendly neighborhood independent BMW mechanic.



Here is a list of what was done:



Inspection II (Two page long list of "checks" plus an Air Filter, Micro Filter/Cabin Filter, minus oil change, since it was done recently)

Brake Fluid Flush

Anti Freeze Flush (purchased from dealer, $18.50)

Bosch Spark Plugs

Fuel Filter



I paid $200 for labor and it ended up being $391.27 all together.



Now, that's in line with what I paid for 60,000 maintenance on my Prelude.
