I did my first full detail yesterday and i think it went pretty well

the car was really rough when I got it and it still hs the dents and some defects

I knew that it didnt matter if this car was 95% defect free

the before and after is definately a BIG difference

I love Toreador Red...its definately one of Fords best colors

Things I used:

ONR pre sprayed to loosen all the dirt then ONR wash

Meg's Claybar (white) W/ONR clay lube

Eagle One A2Z Wheel and Tire

GG 6" DA with 6"CCG Orange pads and Griot 3" Orange mini pad

Meg's UC

Optimum Poli-Seal Applied W/ Griot 6" Red pad

Optimum Opti-Seal (applied to wheels also)

Stoners Invisible glass

Meg's Endurance Shine

I've also been using UC :) Didn't feel a need to finish it out with something a little less aggressive? Looks very good!

I'm not very experienced but one thing I noticed that would make it look a bit better is some wheelwell spray. I've come to like Bare Bones Undercarriage Spray. It actually makes the wheel wells easier to clean next time as well.

Great job!

It got to be hella late so I said screw the white pad and swirlX.

I actually sprayed down the wells but I used a ****** tire shine (ran outta what I usually use)

Thanks for the compliments

Thanks SVT...my nd Gen SHO was toreador red.

I miss that car even though my 3.5 MT altima is better in almost every category lol

I really want to get ahold of a svt contour they are sweet...but I'd like your Mach 1 a bit more...just a bit lol

I detailed a Taurus with the same color this past Summer. I also used UC/SwirlX combo and finished with Collinite 845. That red takes on a really nice glow when it's polished and protected. Nice job on the detail.

the more people like the detail I did the more its making me wish I woulda done the swirlX step...i know it would have looked even better

I was hoping to get a chance to wax the car now that the sealant is cured but from her driving it on the salted up roads its already gettin a bit dirty lol

I bet a layer or 2 of natty's Red or 845 would really look good on this car

Looks really good. I had a 98 Contour with a very similar color..

ONR is a great product, but don't forget to at least now and then give the undercarriage and wheel wells a good wash with a hose or PW.

I think it turned out great, but you need to take care of those wheel wells.

BTW ... do you live somewhat close to Philly? You can get Ardex's Speedy VOC at their front store. It's the same thing as barebones, but cheaper and you don't have to pay shipping.

You can also get the collinite products there.

I can buy collinite products at ardex?

Ill look to see how far it is from me it takes me 45min if I drive...spiritedly

thanks man,

Ill be detailing an GM SS car today...if only it wasnt a 96 Monte SS...

what a waste of an SS badge lol

anyway...its a 96 Monte SS with a light grey interior and black paint

it was garage kept and not too bad but in need of some help

the interior is very clean (thankgod)

look for a new thread bout it in a couple days

ill try to take alot more pix and hopefully they will turn out a bit better

keep up the good work and im sure that monte will look just as good as the last one. i find that when you do something you have a passion for and it happens to to pay well that you can easily exceed all customers expectations. i still remember a time when i only had one client with 2 cars that gave me something to do once a month.:tumbleweed: however once word spreads its hard to have any free time. and thats a good thing. :bigups

well I gott look through the 105 pictures I took as I detailed that Monte

it was pretty bad haha but it came out looking good...not great but im VERY happy with the difference and so is my buddy

I was wrong bout it being an SS car...thats before the SS badge came back it was the MIGHTY Z34! lol

well im still trying to figure out what to charge

every car is different be it the amount/ type of defects, the size, how clean the person is, etc

Id never price a detail job over the phone or without actually seeing the car for myself

it would be way to easy to get screwed

for a VERY ROUGH GUESSTIMATE id say im trying to stay between 20-~40/hr

this taurus was my grandmothers car so obviously i wouldnt ever ask her for $300+

I told her to just give me what she wanted and id be more than happy (expecting 20-50bux lol) she gave me 150 and I felt bad taking it

she said I made the car she hated ,bc it looked terrible, a car she's not embarrassed to drive

she actually got asked if she traded her taurus in for another by church friends lol

the Monte I just did I only got 100Bux but he's y best friend and he helps me with litterally 98% of the stuff I do on cars or other hobbies

Id do anything to help himout and hes tight for cash...meh I aint upset bout the $

it makes it alot easier to take WAAAYYY less than what its truely worth when you love the work your doing (making it not really a job) and when its for good people

I know this response was LONG and didnt really help yah out...sorry buddy lol

It was fine! I enjoyed reading it, plus you gave me information on how to price things. I'm still learning. Thanks a lot though haahaha.

I just started detailing on the side and finding out what to charge is very hard to do. Alot of it had to do about reading your customer and what he is willing to pay, and of course, how much time you are actually going to put into it.

Many people will give you that face when their neglected paint on their sports car is all jacked up and you tell them $300. I'm guilty of this too, but when I sat down and actually did a detail myself... it's alot of work!!

Usually to sell the detail I will break down, step by step, each thing I'm going to do. It helps when you have your portable halogen light cause when you turn that light on and shine it over their car to see the defects, they are like... "Wow I never noticed that before."

But very good job on your first detail, I know you spent some time on it and it definitely shows! Keep up the good work.
