1999 VW Cabriolet

We’ll this one doesn’t exactly bring the bling, but I thought I would post it up. This is a 1999 VW Cabriolet that a friend is trying to sell. So I told her to let me clean it up and see if we can help sell it. Somehow in the process I managed to loose the before pictures. I think the kids erased them of my memory chip. It’s a nice little Cabriolet with about 90K miles, but I don’t think it has been waxed since they bought it, and only washed infrequently. It was a daily commuter so just use your imagination on the paint condition when I got it. Interior was trashed, and the paint was oxidized and lots of swirls, scratches, and plenty of tar. I was able to remove the majority of the swirls but plenty of RIDS were left. The tires were caked with brake dust, tar, and have several stains and some clear coat failure. It looks like that break fluid was allowed to leak on the rims and never cleaned off; the clear coat failure actually is still in the shape of where it dripped. The wheel wells were so dirty they actually looked like they were undercoated but actually it was just dirt that was caked on, I actually found the paint underneath the dirt.

Here is my process.

Exterior:

Purple Power Degreaser full strength on Jambs, wheel wells, under hood.
Dawn Wash
Pinnacle Clay with Meg’s quick detailer
M105 with Wool Pad on Rotary
M105 with White pad on Flex
Dawn Wash to remove any remaining compound
Poorboy’s EX-P Sealant
Meg’s Hot Tire Shine
303 Protectant on All Trim and Engine Bay

Interior:
Purple Power 10:1 for Plastic, Carpets, and Seats
Extracted Carpets & Seats
303 Protectant on All Trim
Invisible Glass
Poorboy's New Car Scent

Sorry no Sunshine Pics it has been raining for 2 days here.

Great work onm the car.Butttttt.
Ummmm.. that is not a cabby. The car looks like a very late mark 3 Golf Looks like it was built just before the mk3 to mk4 switch over in 1999. Cabbies (aka tuna baskets for the usual drivers;)) are convertibles and look like this

It does look nice, very clean design from VW; but agree this is not a Cabriolet.

I really like PB's EX-P on the VW silver metal flake paint.

Nice work in the engine bay as well.

Very nice.
Didi ya clean up the headlights? They looked like they could use some attention.

I did but they are pretty well shot. They are actually about 10 times better than they were. I hit them with steel wool followed by 105 & 205 on my power cone.
