1997 Toyota Avalon

Detail time!
Hey everyone- my first big detail of the season is done. Big it was. The paint was in very bad condition as you'll see from the pics below. The whole car looked like the hood. I started off with a rotary and Optimum Hyper Compound but the rotary wasn't cooperating with me so after a few quick passes of OHC and a cutting pad I went over everything with PB SSR2.5, PC and a polishing pad. I managed to do the whole car with the rotary with 4 different cutting pads which knocked the big swirls out. The finish was was ready for LSP after SSR2.5 at that point in time so I sealed with DP Sealant (old stuff). The interior got Invisible glass, Folex, Meg's #40 and Meg's Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Sorry, the pics aren't the greatest but I hope you get the idea of the work that I did

Detail season is right around the corner!!! Can't wait to be doing more cars in the future. Let me know what you think!

Very nice turnaround! The interior didn't look too bad, but the exterior was certainly neglected. I'm sure the owner was very pleased with your work.

Budman,
Nice work did you find Toyota Avalon paint to be hard ?You first process would normaly work for most cars..

It wasn't that hard at all. It was just like most other cars. I had one heck of a time taming the rotary and OHC today for some reason. The pads gummed up after one section, I had buffer hop, holograms up the wazoo... not a fun time. But I knocked off the big swirls which helped a lot because I don't think SSR2.5 would have been able to handle the swirls. But I'm happy with the results even though it isn't perfect, the owner loved it- which is all that matters.

it sounds like the toyota from hell, anyways the pics look good to me :bigups

Very nice job! Those swirls were pretty bad, but it looks like you got most of them out. Once again, good job.

I bet you have forearms like Popey now! :lol2:

The car looks great! :yourrock

What was the total amount of time that it took you to work on this vehicle? :hmmm:

The time was right around 6 hours. The interior was clean but a mess in its own way. The fake wood trim was all faded and the leather seats were dry and pretty dirty and the windshield had a crack up by the inspection sticker, the passenger doorpanel was off due to a blown speaker... not too bad for a car that has 137,000 miles. Thanks for the comments :).
