Howdy all!

I'm the greenest of greenhorns here (well, I know a teeny bit.)

Anyway, I have some questions for anybody who can help me.

Here's what I have now:

3M Perfect it

3M Imperial Hand Glaze

Meguiar's #20 and #26

I'm looking to use what I already have (wife wont let me buy anymore car stuff,) and I want to get good protection for the summer, but I don't mind waxing every few weeks when it's warm. What I'm planning on doing in a week or two is a full clean and wax. I'm going to wash with dawn, claybar and then use the Perfect it to get out the light swirls. Where I'm at a loss is what to do after this. I would like to use a combination of the Hand glaze and the two waxes but I don't know if they'll work well together. I know the Meguiar's #26 layers well over the #20 but I don't know at which point to use the Hand Glaze? I guess I'm confused about the IHG? Some say it's a cleaner that fills and to use it before any waxes, yet I've also read that polymer waxes(like M's #20) wont bond if the IHG has been previously applied? What are some suggestions for the last parts of my process? Should I IHG then do one coat of each wax, or should I do the synthetic #20 then IHG and then do the carnauba? Somebody please help!

Thanks,

Jared Brock

It is more stable and durable in the summer and can take the sun's heat better than carnuba. If you are not satisfied with the shine, I would top with #26 and skip the IHG. Realize that after you use the carnuba you have to dawn wash or equivalant before you put another coat of #20 on..........

Hope this helps.......

What color car? What year?

Detailking is right. Skip the Imperial Hand Glaze - or if it is new unopened, go trade it for 3M Swirl Mark Remover or Meguiars 2.0 Swirl Mark Remover. Not many people here are happy with the IHG as it seems to fill in and after a wash or few the swirls are back.

as far as the #20 vs. #26 - beats me. I'm not a Meguiars kind-of-guy...:)

I think DK nailed it. Don't bother with IHG, clean up as many swirls as you can with the Perfect-It and then apply the #20. That should give the car a pretty good shine and descent durability, and if you want to add some depth top if off with the #26.

Coolio, thanks guys. That really does help. I was kinda thinking the IHG was an unnecessary step and I didn't want to waste my time with it since it only lasts a week on my car. I guess I'll just give the IHG to my dad to use on his Harley since he details it every week and hardley rides it (and my wife said I was anal about detailing.)

Oh yeah, this is all on my 2002 Impreza which is a dark blue. The paint is still in almost new condition except for some minor scratches/swirls from the winter. I do like the combination of the #20 followed by the #26 because the synthetic protects really well and the carnauba makes it look sweet!

I do have another question. I'm debating on whether to use the Perfect it Foam pad polish that I have. It's supposed to be great for removing light swirls, but I had problems on my black '00 Civic that I had before the impreza. My wife helped me apply the Perfect it and we followed the directions, but no matter how much we buffed it off it made paint dull with finer swirls(scratches since we went in a straight line) and it looked like crap. It's possible we were doing something wrong, what do you guys think? I was thinking of getting the Meguiar's no. 9 swirl remover and using that instead. Will I get good results from that? I just don't want to make my paint worse this time by using the wrong product or wrong method of aplication. Any tips to help prevent this would be much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Jared Brock

Recently completed job in the shop, this vehicle is owned by a "True car guy" who knows his way around a wrench....(lol).

The entire vehicle had been re-sprayed and had "Body shop" issues such as nibs/sand scratches etc.....

The owner stripping down the car(Bumperettes off/turn signals/badges).

With a pass of 4000 grit Abralon and some "Wooliemammoth rotary" I was able to level safely, readings were still over 160 microns.

Let me know if you need some "jump the gun" clippage ole' chap.

The 993 is, IMO, the best looking of the modern 911's. Great work Bob, the paint in the last couple of pics looks killer, and the pic of the rear badging removed is just too much. GJ!

Todd:clap:

Just a great Job! I can only imagine how the owner must have felt seeing the transformation.

That paint looks dripping wet. Hopefully the owner will stay on top of it as that car will be a classic.

Thanks for posting. Great pic's

Jeff

Beautiful !!! Great work?

:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

BTW - that is a 1996 (not 1995). You can tell by the motor, the rear tail light across the top of the rear window, and by the tenth digit in the "vin" number.

Bob,
I love reading your write ups. You really show every step and every little detail that so many don't bother with. That 50/50 on the rear lid really tells the whole store.
Beautiful work on an equally beautiful car.:hurray:

You are right, owner did not tell me so I went off the door plaque and I should have looked at the build month.

Wasn't done with the write up Greg........... you hump. :toetap05:

J/K Greg...thanks for the kudos.

You must be getting slow posting in your old age......Weightlifter
