1993 Mercedes Benz 300 CE Coupe

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
I detailed this 1993 Mercedes Benz 300 CE Coupe this morning, and wanted to share some pics of this future classic. The car has 103k miles and has all original paint. The exterior was in need of a heavy buff and started out with:

Wash & Clay
Hi Temps Heavy cut leveler w/ yellow wool pad
3M Perfect-It Utrafina SE w/ green foam pad
P21 Concours Wax

I was very impressed with the 3M Ultrafina, and it was my first time using this product. The product last a long time on the surface and buffs away with barely any dust.

I always admired the styling of the Mercedes Benz cars of this era. I will always have a place in my heart for these pillarless squarebodied coupes.

Great job, the black looks like water. :bigups

Its strange looking at that car with no center pillar between the windows.

Absolutely beautiful work as usual Clean Dean! What did you use on the leather and vinyl I like the matte shine?

Thanks !!!

On the vinyl surfaces I use Stoners Trim Shine and buff in the product with an old MF towel.

As for the leather, I used mink oil, and also buffed in the product with a MF towel. I usually use Lexol, but when working on these older hides I found that they tend to be really "thirsty" for some oil.

Thanks !!!

Whats mink oil?

Wikopedia def:

Mink oil is made from the thick fatty layer minks have just under their skins. This fat is removed from the pelt when the mink is skinned and is then rendered into mink oil. Mink oil is a source of palmitoleic acid which possesses physical properties similar to human sebum, therefore mink oil is used in several medical and cosmetic products. Mink oil is also favored for treating and preserving leather.

Its is a very rich oil that will help moisturize older hides. On really dry leather I like to very gently sand the surface first to open up the pours prior to applying the oil.

Beautiful work on a beautiful car Clean Dean, I would love to own that car and would probably choose it before a new one. One question, is the passenger side headlight cloudy or fogged? It doesn't appear to me to be as clear and bright as the drivers side, although it could just be the lighting, or maybe fogged inside?

Dam, we can be annoyingly picky can't we? It must be the OCD!

Great eye my friend !!! Luckily the car is still in my garage and I'll check it out tomorrow AM. I hoping its just oxidized and will buff it out tomorrow.

Thanks.
