Condition: Sad

Worked on a customer's 1991 Acura Legend today. Black, grey, and grit were the name of the game today. I don't understand, but I couldn't get much "slickness" back to the paint, even after numerous attempts at claying, and such. Surprisingly, gloss was amazing.

The car had some trouble spots, like all four doors, which were repainted with a grey black instead of the factories "BLACK!". I managed to improve the doors when they were swirlless, so it matched a little better.

Interior was in sad shape as well, and I could get the carpets clean for th life of me.

Processes:

Exterior:

Clean up antifreeze.

Wash

Clay x3 in numerous places

Compound with Automagic GC2 on wool pad and rotary at 1000RPM

Polish with PC at 6 with Poorboys SSR2.5

Finished off with Automagic New Car Glaze on polishing pad at speed 5

Sealed with Collonite 476S

Rims cleaned with soap and water, then polished with a terry cloth and my secret polishing concoction.

Tires got Automagic Dress it Right

Exhaust got some polishing concoction

Interior:

Vaccuum

Pressure Wash matts

Scrub matts with APC

Scrub matts with Oxyclean

Extract with my steam machine

Cleaned panels with APC

Topped with Poorboys Natural Look

Glass:

Cleaned with SprayWay cleaner

Topped with Collonite Insulator Wax

Got the paint looking nice and glossy. Too bad their interior looks like it's out of a Dodge Omni circa 1981. Those seats are shredded. :(

I've noticed this too with some older, neglected finishes. The slickness just disappears after 3-4 days. No matter what I am using, carnauba, synthetics, it is gone even with the most advanced LSPs.

The look can be ultra delicious, glassy, but it feels like bare paint after a week. And still beads like crazy.

Why? :nixweiss

Maybe premanent surface contaminants, or beginning of clear coat failure.

I think this is your answer. My '95 Legend is experiencing some all out failure on the top areas and pretty much NOTHING will last on those surfaces.

I had this problem on my '95 GMC truck, and then I found Klasse Sealant Glaze. 3 layers of KSG, topped with NXT and the slickness even after 4 months is amazing.
