1990 Red Miata "renewed"

Yeah, Schumaker from Ferrari's formula one racing felt bad winning the championship seven years in a row. I bet Tigert Woods feels bad everytime he wins a tournament. I bet Tom Brady feels bad that he has three super bowl rings. If you have done a good job...flaunt it!!

Lol, never thought of it that way.

Beautiful work! What a transformation...

I wonder what the engine bay looked like with an exterior that was so poorly maintained.

You know I never looked. Didnt detail the engine since it was mainly a paint restoration. But I bet the engine bay didnt have the amount of swirls and oxidation the paint had! ;)

Just an update. Today on my way to class I was driving and saw a bright red miata. Upon driving closer to the miata I saw that it was my co-workers miata that I had detailed. And to my biggest surprise I can tell he washed it since the detail. His car should have been covered in pollen and dirt by now, yet he had it gleaming clean. I guess since his car got a new start he figured he would start taking care of it. This is such a shock because he had previously told me that he hadnt washed the car in almost 2 years or something ridiculous.

Only thing that made me sad is that his car was cleaner than mine. With my busy schedule with school, work, exams, and bad weather I havent had a chance to take care of my car in the last week or two :(

Just out of curiosity, I said earlier that I charged the guy $130 for the detail I did on his Miata. I KNOW for a fact that I undercharged him by a great deal, mainly because I know him personally. Im putting together a pricing sheet for details this summer and would like to get some input on this particular detail I did. Based on the time and steps I took how much would YOU have paid? I did do the interior pretty much top to bottom. Like I said earlier in this thread I spent 8 hours closer to 9 really on this Miata. Im thinking anyone I dont know personally (customer off the street) I should have charged close to $300. Does that sound reasonable?

That seems fair. I mean im also taking into account that two of my pads are dead due to paint transfer which is about 12 bucks a pad. I guess I will charge more for single stage paint jobs. Im gonna start making my goal to equate 30 an hour, since im using my parents garage, utilities, etc. I guess its more the fact that this is not my main source of income. I work sales where I have the ablility to make my own schedule and I guess the way I see it, i make an average earnings at work of about 30 an hour and that doesnt have any cost to me as far as supplies. But the only thing is that it is taxed. So in order to do a detail i have to pretty much take the day off from work.

Amazing work on the Miata! I think you should enter it into the contest. As for your prices they sound reasonable. You put over a full days work into the car and lost two pads. Yes, you should have charged well over $200 for the work. I hope your co-worker realizes this and gives you additional money or gives you lots of future business.

MODS....If you can please move this thread to the Extreme Detail Contest for April I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Tdekany, I charged $130 mainly because he's an ex co-worker that i know is a really nice guy. I should have AT minimum got close to $300 for our area's market. Lost two pads in the process :( Just an excuse to buy newer pads with diff designs to try :)

What a transformation! Nothing like bringing back something that rough back to life! Excellent work and great before and after shots, worth the smoke pouring out of my modem. ;)

yeah - damn nice job. so you did wetsand it huh??

i need to practice.

PM a mod to move it

Yea, I PM'ed two Mods 4-5 days ago with no response :nixweiss

I only wetsanded those two areas where my co-worker hit what looks a yellow concrete pole on the rear bumper and a white concrete pole on the front bumper. A clay bar wouldnt take off the paint transfer that he got from them. (Prolly becuase its been on there for a while.) What's scary is the car is Single Stage paint so was getting red paint on the sand paper!

Here is the new thread (pretty much copy and pasted this thread) in the April Contest Entry. http://autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55127

Aside from the fact that i could see that you did a lot of work on this project. There is one other thing that I know for sure... That is... You can't win if you do not enter. Glad you took the time to get it into the contest.

GOOD LUCK to a GOOD JOB!
