1990 Red Miata "renewed"

I saw a Miata at the mall that was much worse than this one. I wanted so bad to detail it for the before/after pictures. I wrote a hand note and told the guy I'd give him a 30%discount and left it on the windshield with my business card. As I was putting it on, he came out. He looked pissed I was putting it on his car and I explained my intentions. He scoffed at me and said "I just bought some stuff at the store and I'm gonna clean it tomorrow!" I wish I could have directed him to this thread, he would have been caling me to give it a shot for sure. How do you think AIO would have handled that oxidation? Also, were your pads that bad that you couldn't clean them? I've had paint transfer on pads before (that stayed for along time) and still used them with no problems.

I'm a big Miata fan. I own a 92 Black & Tan and a 91 'Rare Red'. I've probably refurbished 15 red 1st generation MX-5s. Even won "Best of Show" at a National Mazda meet.

Trust me, you've done GREAT WORK!!

I'm sure you're enjoying a very real sense of satisfaction!

Resurrecting an old thread because this is just amazing.

There seems to be significant experience with red SS paint Miatas--what is the recommended pad and product combo for PC application to address moderate oxidation?

IMHO, you'll have very little success with the PC. At least in terms of rectifying 15 year old single stage paint.

Having said that, try Meg's yellow pad and #83 DACP on your PC. If that doesn't 'cut' it, then move up to a rotary.

Good Luck!

With the deep oxidation that Miata had, a PC will brighten it a little. A rotary is the best for that kind of condition.

I normally never comment on these before and afters but this is the best one I've ever seen on this site. That car was a complete disaster and you made it look brand new. Congratulations.

Thats the a great click and brag!!

Really really good work. On the front of the bumper it says Mazda in white. Did you wet sand around it??

Christ man! You are amazing! That car was 24x turd style before, amazing work too! I can't believe you spent 1.5hrs on just those dinky wheels, they sure were beat huh? I hope you got well over $200 for that kind of work.

noooooooooo! PC is all I have, and I don't have the experience to use a rotary. I'll try this approach and hope it works.

I am getting ready to do a black Miata that is in just about as bad of shape as this one. I don't have a rotary and don't really think I will need one. I will be very interested to see how it comes out! The red one is amazing!!

Usually single stage finishes that are oxidixed make for dramatic before and afters. Takes a lot of work, but the end results are priceless! :)

Oh great Miata paint restorer Master :bow : Do you think a red Miata SS with mild-moderate oxidation could be brought back to life with a *mere* PC? What products would you recommend?
