Thankfully the Mercedes diesel never made it into any of the SL's. The engine bay detail is amazing! My dad has a '74 that needs some engine cleaning. I'll use these pictures as inspiration.

You really do a lot of older Mercedes-how do you manage that? I like the new ones just fine but I miss the character they used to have.

how did you clean the rims?

I used an acid based wheel cleaner inside those tight grooves and small pieces of 0000 steel wool. I agitate with groove with the steel wool & cleaner then wash with the pressure washer. I highly recommend an electric pressure washer, because the pump runs only on demand.

Were the pinstripes the OE painted ones or aftermarket tape?

Aftermarket stipes. The adhesive must have been 19 years old !!!b A real pain !!!

No, before interior shots. Fortunately the interior was in much better condition than the exterior. Nothing a good extractor, compressor, and some light APC's could not take on.
