1984 Porsche 928

Hi all! I forgot to post this one :)! This is a Porsche 928 that I've just finished. I started this car about 2 weeks ago at the owner's place and when I got about 1/2 way finished with it, debris from the building that was being destroyed in the vicinity caked the car in concrete dust :censored:! Needless to say I had to stop and we rescheduled for today in my new garage :argie:!! The place is still not 100% finished and there's a lot of "detailer customization" that needs to be done, but for today it served its purpose just fine... even made use of the pit that it's equipped with :). I think I'll be camping there tomorrow night setting up the lights and peeing in the corners to mark my territory :D. Anyway, the first few pics will give you an idea of how primitive the detailing world still is in this country. He recently had the car resprayed (they did a really cruddy job too) and the only place he had his car washed was at the "hand wash" places here. Swirl and RIDS city. The process:

-Foamed with Organizone No-Touch with added foam booster (this stuff rocks) (15%) and a mix of Organizone HD Extra degreaser (5%) and left to dwell about 5 min

-Rinsed

-(while foam dwelling) Wheels, tires and wells cleaned with Organizone G1 and assorted brushes

-Washed with 2BM and Cherry Bubbles, cleaned each panel and rinsed

-Dried with a water blade and MF towels (yes, I use a water blade because if I'm polishing a car I'm not going to scratch it any more than it already is. Furthermore, if you scratch a car with a water blade you obviously haven't washed it correctly... just MHO)

-Clayed with yellow poly clay (I hate this crap but have a lot of it so I need to use it up... Jap stuff coming soon) and ONR H2O mix for a lube

-Taped up

-Started with Scholl S17 (don't know if any of you kids have had the opportunity to use this stuff but it's awesome! A one-stepper that starts off as an upper-medium cut polish, breaks down and then finishes up most jobs without any holograms... wicked juice IMHO) and a finishing pad but the S17 is a bit thick when it's fresh so the finishing pad was a bit too grabby so I switched to a polishing pad. The polishing pad didn't give me the results I wanted as there were still some scratches so I went to a medium-cut (blue Riwax) pad. This combo gave me exactly what I was looking for so I continued with it. I also did some pad changing along the journey in the areas where there were RIDS. I switched to a 4" pad and took advantage of the cutting power of S17 at high RPMs (1200 max) and also of the low heat that you get with using such a small pad; this cleared everything right up. Although I was utterly impressed and satisfied with the results of the 1-step polishing, I still wasn't 100% convinced that there was no micro-marring so I did an IPA wipe, checked for scratches with my new Osram spotlight (very nice :)) and then finished up with a black pad and (a new product for me, courtesy of my good friend Bence ;) thanks buddy) PoliSeal using only the weight of the Makita. I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see traces of the product on the car, but nonetheless I think it did a great job of finishing up, despite the small spots of hazing in some places (maybe I used too much??).

-After finishing up with Poliseal, I didn't want to apply Swisswax pre-wax cleaner because I didn't want to affect the sealant so I left that part out. Therefore I put another coat of OptiSeal on the car by foam applicator just to make sure that the nooks and crannies were sorted and to give a bit more protection to the buttery paint on this car.

-LSP the wax of choice for today was Swisswax Zuffenhausen. I can't say that I fancy this wax too much... It felt like I was rubbing snot on the car and was just really too greasy for my likings. It spread well and smelled very "tutti fruity", but was a "female dog" to take off even after curing for 15 minutes. Also, it left so much oil on the car after I took it off that I had to use Optimum QD to remove the oil swirls. I don't usually use OD's after waxing but I had no choice today.

Well that's it for my write up! If you've gotten this far and haven't fallen asleep yet I appreciate you reading it! Here's the piccies!

Check out the tree growing out of the side of the wall in the background! It started growing under the building and somehow found it's way through the foundation, then out the side of the wall! Weird!!

sickness. great work and thanx for the cool write-up! i've actually been wondering about that wax for awhile but am extra-turned off after your review.

there's something magical about saving 20+ year old paint..... hopefully the owner keeps it up so we don't have future pics of this vehicle in it's "matte" finish

Cheers Barry, Mutt Grunt and Pompos!! In all honesty I was completely stoked about Swisswax when I got my first one, but after tons of money and several LSPs later I don't see much of a difference between them and the other stuff I use that cost a fraction of the price. It all boils down to the prep in the long run. Now I won't say I'll never buy another tub of SW because I sell it by the layer and make a great profit from it, but my own car gets the "other" stuff. It's wearing a coat of Insta Finish Premium wax (hybrid teflon/carnauba) and a coat of Dodo Juice Hard Candy at the moment... it'll get another coat next week but I just can't decide between Liquid Glass and Collinite 885 :nixweiss. Basically what I've discovered with SW is that's it's for the people that think a Breitling tells time better than a Casio. OK there's no way in hell I'd ever sell my Breitling for a Casio, but... :dance

Oh, and now that I look at your avatar it does look strikingly familiar ;)

Cheers buddy! Yeah, I hope it stays like that too. He drove it for a few days then put it in the garage and covered it for the winter. I'm fairly certain he won't dare bring it to anyone else after watching me pamper it for 16 hours :)

Thanks for the offer buddy, but they're a bit too expensive to part with, even just one coat :( I sell one coat of Concorso for about $125 :D... over here it cost me nearly $450. Just know that if you do buy a tub of SW, you'll be able to sell it for good $$ by the layer. If you're looking for a great wax with decent durability go with Dodo Juice... you can always upsell your customers with Dodo as well, but not for as much as SW. I can't see any difference between my Dodo's and my SW's, whether it's looks or durability. Hell, my Victoria Wax even held up against Concorso...

Superb turnaround! That's how the car SHOULD look!

Thanks Kaval! Those :censored: cowboy body shops here left pig tails all over it and the sand, I mean "hand" washes just butchered that poor thing. I think he'll be a customer for life ;)

Looks very nice mate, no Instafinish on this one ;)

:D unfortunately my shipment hadn't arrived yet when I did this one so I had to "settle" for Scholl S17 ;) I talked to Kent today and mentioned that we "spoke" in the forums!

Likewise :)

kitűnő ! Your hard work really paid off. The 928 is still one of my favorite Porches - I have not actually seen one in my area for over a decade.

Hmm, I smell some pálinka blood! :D :D :D 'KitűnÅ‘' is a word indigenous to the few who've had the pleasure of visiting/living in/being born in Hungary... or to someone who just has the nack to pick up a 3,000+ year-old language??

I have to confess - I used an internet-based translator. It was meant as a gesture of respect. I have enough trouble with English!!! I studied German in school and still I only know enough to get myself arrested.

It just seemed an appropriate word for the job you did on that 928. Love it.
