1984 Grady White vs. Zaino

Late this summer we purchased a 19' Grady White Tournament. It's a starter boat, and needed some love and care. The previous owner kept it in good running condition, but really didn't do much on the gel coat, etc....

Process:
Wash: Z7 Concentrated (using wash mitts and brushed on EVERYTHING)
Polish: 3M Marine Compound/Polish
Protect: Z6 Wipe Down/Z5 x 2 Seal.
Vinyl/Trim: Z16 using a sponge applicator.
2-3 Dozen Costco MF's

After 2 days of washing, polishing, sealing, wiping, etc.... here's what we saw:

The previous owner wanted his boat back :) -this made me (and my son) feel pretty good about 2 days of hard work.

your son and your hard labor paid off the boat looks new again.congrats on on your new boat...

Looks good!
The Grady White should make a good boat for you. May be more than a starter from the looks of it.
Like cars, they don't have to be new to look good and do the job.

You may already know this, but special cleaners and protectants are available for the non-skid surfaces of your boat, and it looks like the G-W has plenty. The slippery products we use on our cars aren't quite the thing for a wet surface we walk on. Just as with a vehicle, keeping it cleaned regularly makes it much easier.

Great work, Greg! And congrats on the new addition!

The gelcoat is gleaming as I'm sure the rest is, too.

What brand/hp is that engine? Are you planning on doing something with the cover?

Thanks for all the comments.

Charles I did not do the floor yet for that reason. What are you using? I need some help.

Sean the motor is a 115 Jonhson. My wife's cousin knows someone that can powder coat the cover and then put new stickers on the cover. I have too say that the z is holding up on the boat.

The pictures are a month old and I have had it out a couple of times in salt water. The finish is still slick, and has been very easy to maintain. My next door neighbor at the shore has a Grady too and I've helped him detail his boat a few time. His 3M Marine polish works very well on the gel coat, but I've found that his LSP was more difficult to use (carnuba based), only holds up 2-3 weeks during use, and contaminants bond to his paint much more so vs. Zaino. If you use a power washer, then it's no big deal, but if you're washing by hand you notice a big difference.

My wife's cousin helped me with a few odds and ends on the boat last weekend, and could not believe how easy it was to wash. He also noticed the slickness/feel of the gel coat. He volunteered me to detail his boat :) I detailed his Caddy earlier this year with Z, and he has been very impressed with the continued 'fresh shine' after each wash.

Nice work...Great Boat!! I agree with Charles that this is more than a starter boat. At least in my eyes:) .

You and your boy should have a lot of fun in that boat!! I am happy for you.

The only non-skid surface I have is the swim platform and I just clean it with Meguiar's APC+ and a mediuim bristle brush.
The Star Brite marine products company has a product for cleaning and protecting non-skid, but I have never used it.
BoatersWorld.com - Star Brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner
It can be found at lots of marine supply stores and can be ordered on-line from several marine suppliers.
