Clean Dean- Well....truth be told, I removed most of it from the engine compartments of my SECs too 
And yeah, I know how mechanics can appreciate its removal
Mine cleaned up pretty easily, being not-too-old at the time, but my '97 M3 had that nasty black, dirt-impregnated look. I used a combo of steam and solvents and that's what I've been recommending to others.
What works best for *you* when cleaning off old, baked-on rustproofing like this?
