1973 Mercedes 450 SL (suprise)

I got a call yesterday to do this car...so i fit him in today, he only said he wanted a light polish and wax, and engine cleaned...i was like ok...so maybe the car isn't to bad....



wrongggg ..this thing was highly oxidized!



i went threw about 14 pads doing this car...and i couldn't just do a 1 step polish...



i went old school on this one ..



wash- dp 4-1 rinsless wash



clay- clay magic



polish - (old school) xmt 3 with different cutting pads ... and xmt 1 with white polishing pads



wax- sig ser II





ok...small story...i was doing the engine bay, just a good wipe down, i reach my hand in the corner of the engine bay and........

HOLY F*CK!!!! I WOULD HAVE PISSED MYSELF! No joke, i would literally be shaking... i hate rats and mise... A long time ago i had some food left in my room (BADDDD IDEA) and i got a mouse... so i was talking to a friend 1 night on aim and all of a sudden i notise a little itch on my foot... the DAMN THINIG WAS CHEWING ON MY FOOT! So i freaked out and got dad to come in my room to get it.
 
hahah..ya i jumped cuz i thought it was alive at first...but i just picked it up with pliers and to the trash...well after he got his 2 sec photo shoot lol
 
When I was a lot younger I had a Chevy that starting running rough. I took off the cover to the air cleaner and there were two dead mice in the snorkel end It seems like animals look for a warm place to go in the cold winter months and a warm engine seems likely. One time a friend of mine noticed that his alternator gauge wasn't showing a charge. He opened his hood and he saw a cat mangled in the fan belts of his car. It was so bloody that the mechanic would not work on it till he cleaned out the carcass. Strange things happen!:werd:
 
I once pulled quite a few dead mice out from underneath a back seat cushion. Lots of fun !!! Great job on that early w107 sl !!! I love the OEM painted hubcaps. Most owners of these cars "upgrade" to the later model bundt wheels, but I personally love the look of the matching hubcaps. That tobacco brown exterior looks great !!! Nice work !!!



As for the rodent, its not uncommon to find mice especially in air filter, but that rat is pretty big and nasty !!!



Does the owner have any interest in selling that one?



If so please let me know.
 
I hate to burst your bubble, but that rat has only been dead for about two-three weeks.

It doesn't even seem to have reached the fermentation stage of decomposition.

i was detailing in the garage once and felt a squish under my foot. low and behold i killed a mouse that was running across the floor. Who needs mouse traps, i got feet.

Haha be a man will you :D But I would have been pretty frightened my self if the rat had chew on my foot, I must admit.

My cousins summer place is besides ours, and they put antifreeze in the toilets for the winter. I went there last week to check things out and found 3 dead mice in one, they had left the lid open so the mice had probably jumped in there for the smell(antifreeze has a sweet smell) I picked them up on a shovel, closed the lid and buried them outside. They looked much worse than that one. :scared:

We are both drawn to these vintage Benzes !!! I love the European spec bumpers on this one. The way the w107s were intended to look !!! I get excited when I see these types of posts. I have yet to see an old 300 SL post as of yet.



scottgt really did this gorgeous early model justice.
