1973 IH Travelette

The styling of this truck took me back to my childhood. Cool truck that needed some attention.



It had some pretty nasty stains on the upholstery and the interior smelled. The single stage paint was severely dull and faded. It really needed a repaint, so the owner and I decicided just to clean it up to make it presentable until he gets a paint job.

Yes, that is shag carpeting on the back of the front bench seat :nana:

Nice detail, you really did a great job on the upholstery. I used to drive one of those on a summer job when I was in college. Ours had vinyl seats, two wheel drive and a four in the floor transmission. I mostly remember it for the huge turning radius with four doors and a full sized bed. Thanks for the memories. :xyxthumbs

No, found the screwdriver under the seat.



However, the key was so worn it would fall out even with the ingition turned on.



You could also put this truck in N from P with the key removed ... the good old days.

Some are, some aren't .... I'd say about half the jobs I do the client only want the exterior done and nothing touched on the interior.:nixweiss

Thanks! This truck is far from "pristine", but considering it's age of 36 years it's in pretty darn good shape. Owner went all the way to California for this one.

Thanks! That probably the best way to put it. The reflections aren't exactly clear, deep, wet, or mirror-like, but at least now there is SOME reflection. The paint was pretty chalky when the truck rolled up, especially on the horizontal surfaces.

Paint correction to remove oxidation was as follows.



Horizontal surfaces got:

3M Perfect-It II Rubbing Compound Fine Cut, Rotary @900RPM, Orange Edge foam pad, Light Pressure only due to age/condition of paint

Hi-Temp HT-69 Smooth Cut, PC speed 5, Green Sonus foam pad to remore marring from previous step

Klasse AIO via PC and white foam pad



Vertical panels got:

Klasse AIO, applied via PC speed 5, Orange Sonus foam pad, multiple passes as needed



Collinite Insulator Wax 845 all panels for LSP



Poorboys Bold and Bright on tires

Yup, and there's one on each side (dual tanks).

Forgot to mention it, but when working with oxidized single stage paint, expect a lot of color transfer onto your pads :buffing:
