although i tend not to post much here on autopia, i just had to share some of these pics for all of you. this has been my most pleasing detail yet. simply because its a classic and was in such bad bad shape. although i dont have before pics, lemme tell u that the paint of very oxidised, swirled, and chipped. the leather inteior was very very dry, and the engine was never detailed. only fixed pieces here and there but never cleaned.

the car is a 1970 'cuda 383. everything is orignal, even the paint unfortunately, which means its a pain in the *** to polish. the paint is single stage. i have never had a car harder to buff than i did today. spent 3 hours polishing.

process:

a2z on wheels/tires/wheel wells

sg dilluted 1:1 on all exerior trim.

windows were clayed and aio'd

paint was washed with GC

Polished first with aio (to remove a lot of the oxidation)

compounded with #83 and cutting pad

polsied with #83 and polsihing pad

followed by #80 and polishing pad.

sealed with UPP

all exterior trim and top was dressed with tirm restorer

chrome was done with eagle one neverdull

tires were dressed with BnB

leather was cleaned with sg dilluted 9:1

dressed with a premium leather product for leather couches (dont rememebr the name)

chrome in engine was polished with sio and everything inside it was dressed with stoners trimshine

and here are my pics

Ahhh, they just don't make them like that anymore (now I know why my dad would say that)!

What a car ! My mom used to drive a 340 'Cuda...brings back a lot of memories :xyxthumbs

WOW thats one cool car.

1 year older than me!

Thats everything I remember from my childhood as an american car from dukes of hazard and other 70's t.v. shows.

Wish we could get cars like that over here in the u.k.

You should be proud of the job you've done there my friend.

Respect to you.

Phil

The first few shots looks really good but I'm on dial-up and you seem to have about 2MB worth of pics. Probably be early June before I can switch to broadband. :(

Beautiful car! My brother had a '71 Challenger and I have a customer with a '69 Dodge Dart 340 Swinger so I have a real appreciation for Mopar muscle!

Nice car!

Boy, that car brings back fond memories of my car days in the 70's.

BTW, wasn't there a 'Cuda that sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction a few months ago for some hugh amount of money.

It seems all the Mopar Missiles are bringing nose-bleed territory prices...people seek the nostalgia from an era when cars were cars!

A SuperBird (with Hemi) passed thru B-J a few weeks ago...price was just north of $300k....thank you very much!

no problem. the mach1 is scheduled for some time for the end of this week. it should be a ncie one especially sicne its clearcoated black with new paint and clear and not that awful lacquer which made polsihing a nightmare

That's a wonderful detail on a sweet muscle car :D

Weren't you a little worried polishing that aggressively on a factory paint job of that age?
