1968 Ferrari 365 GT (Black...31 pics)

Completed this 1965 Ferrari 365 GT yesterday. It was my fourth black vehicle in 4 days and even though it needed a good amount of work, it was certainly in better shape then the previous cars I came across. The car was repainted and restored about 10 years ago. The owner takes pretty good care of it and it isn’t driven much. He wanted it buffed out as he is competing in a Concourse event today.

Paint was a little weird since it seemed somewhat soft yet I was able to go from EC to 106FF with no middle step. The car does have a clear coat which helped. The car is actually pretty big which is why it took me a while.

Final Process:

Wash, no clay needed

HT-EC with orange cut pad @1500rpms x2 in some areas.

Menz 106FF with blue finesse pad @1500rpms ->1000rpms x2 in some areas from previous polishing marring (very slight)

Re-Washed and FK425 wiped down (I took outside pics at this point as it was getting dark)

LSP = Souveran

PICS!

These Outside pictures were taken after I re-washed the car and wiped down with FK425. So there is no wax at this point. I had limited space to take pics so I couldnt get any sideview shots. The sun was just about down at this point.

Total Process took about 11 hours. No interior work was done since it was already pretty clean. Questions and comments are welcomed as always! :)

That car is stunning. You did an amazing job bringing that paint back to life. Any results from the show yet?

I will probably know this evening. Even if he doesnt win, most concours events are not based on detailing aspects. Correct and accurate restoration determines the winner. Detailing simply makes the car more presentable to judges.

Wow looks fantastic. Prep is definitely everything as that paint is very clear and bright. Which pads are you using?

I use LC/Wolfgang 6.5 inch pads for this particular detail. Areas that were a little tight I used 4in LC CSS polishing pad.

I just bought some polos and hats last week with Refined Detailing on them. I thought if I was going to be around the type of cars im detailing, i need to look somewhat professional! :)

Thanks for the compliments.

Are those pads concave or flat? Good call with the Polos and hat.

I used to have the concave pads in both 6.5 and 7.5 inches then stop using them. I now only use flat pads.

Diesel, I havent tried edge or meguiars pads yet. I usually buy my pads from topoftheline.com or autogeek.net

Just :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow

Holy Macro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your talent really shows when there is a lack of OP in the paint.

Just like a mirror.

Amazing work!!!

Your work is stunning. The reflection shots are amazing. I spent 8 hours polishing my F150 today and your pics don't do my truck justice.

Amazing...

That looks like a Ferrari Concours Platinum winner right there. Will he be driving it to the event? I can't imagine there will be too many of the same car in the event so he should clean up (no pun intended) in his class anyway. It almost makes you wish 4-5 of the same car show up so you can really see your efforts rewarded. I love those exhaust pipes.

Very nicely done.
