1950 Mercury Coupe (Black Lacquer...45 pics)

01bluecls- Nice job on a cool car :xyxthumbs Thanks for sharing it with us.

I bet the old-school lacquer was sorta fun to work with compared to today's b/c paints ( still have a soft-spot for ss black lacquer, nothing else quite like it).

Wonder what he'll have it reshot with, good ss lacquer is getting hard to find.

He will probably get a more modern CC finish and in a different color. I suggested maybe a DEEP darker red with ghost flames on the front end. Probably wont be for a few years though.

The paint looks absolutely incredible! :bow

Just amazing how much difference there was in that side by side shot, like completely different paint on each side.

It was the largest panel that was "pretty flat" and I knew it would make for a good half and half shot ;)

Chris, excellent work on the correction. It's good to see laquer that is still in preservable condition. You sure did make that look pretty again.

I hate doing those hoods also. I usually use wool to brighten and then foam to de-swool. I tape all the sharp edges so I do not chew up any pads. It is still a pain and a long taping process with double folding the tape so no adhesive shows.

Outstanding job!:usa

Yea the previous detailer seemed to NOT take that approach and ended buring the top of those edges on all the vents on the hood. I guess he/she just went over the hood with the buffer regardless of the vents. There were a lot of other areas with burnt edges as well.

The coolest thing about the vehicle (at least I thought) was you notice how the doors have no handles?? Those fog light looking things on the front windshield has a button in each one to electronically pop the door open!! How freaking cool is that! lol I nearly flipped my lid when I saw it, that was after the owner showed me when I was trying to figure out how to open the door with no handles for 5 minutes!
