#16 on windows beats out anything else I have used...

Welp. I've used it for the past few months and while it is okay, #16 on windows hasn't been great.

It makes water bead while the car is standing, but for driving with the wipers on, not a whole lot of beading. I'm going to have my friend get me some aquapel from the dealer she works at for me :)

I was driving one dark moonless rainy night on a freeway I had to pull over to the next town because I could not see because of the wiper glare from the incoming headlights, I almost hit a tree! I had to go to a gas station and buy some degreaser and wipe off the wax of what ever was on it off the windshield. Sense then I never used anything on the windshields. I think it’s just to much of a liability. Because now when I drive I demand 100% visibility all the time for safety. When its raining the wipers should have "no glare" the windshield glass should be “crisp clean & clear when the wiper passes. RainX does leave a momentarily glare or bur from the wipers that’s ok for city driving but for a dark moonless rainy night on mountain freeway driving that is not 100% safe. Wax/sealer VM, AIO on a windshield would be even worse.

If you can’t see what’s in front of you for one second its one second less to respond to a situation in front of you while driving.

My process after claying the glass (periodically) is Sonus glass polish, VM (by rotary w/ edge blue), Quik shine before next step, Klasse SG x 2 and DP spray sealant on one side and FMJ x 1 and UPP x 1 on other

Sadly the poorboys EXP doesn't last long on glass and for some strange reason doesn't like to be spread (thick as buggery) evenly on paint as well

Clearkote choc moose is a good wet look protectant for glass as well and while we are on waxes, how would collinite marque de elegance , P21s or pizzaz go on all exterior glass

I sometimes like to use WG DGPS to make it really slick again since it seems to lose it's slickness quicker than paint

Every sealant I have has been on my car's glass and that is quite a few

A wax will absorb the rainwater and thus prevent water spot damage, especially if you have a few coats on.

For over two years my wipers have never been used, it simply is not necessary

PPG aquapel I want to try one day too

QS, DP final gloss booster, menz HGAS and Sonus ultra detail spritz are great protectant topping QD's.

UGE, 1Z raindance and some others just cause hazing

Have never used #16 but everyone keep your glass wax coating tests going, look forward to the results

I began coating windows in 2003, seemed a logical thing to me.

Fallout doesn't choose what surface it wants to attack, it gets everywhere and rough glass I do hate with a passion.

Slick glass is great, I watched a moth hit the drivers window (after I washed my car), slide straight down to the door trim then scream down the paint at incredible speed without leaving any dust whatsoever.

I'm new here, obviously. Who make's #16, I just feel dumbfounded seeing all the #xx here and not knowing what brand it is to look for.

thanks for the help

Home page, top right,"Secret Decoder Ring" :bigups

sorry to bump an old thread.

but i was searching for produts to use on my windows...

i have a sample of AIO, and plan to use that...

but how has the progress gone with people topping windows with #16???

thanks

What about #845? Can't bead water much better than that. I haven't tried it on the windshield, but if water flies off of the glass like it does with #845 on paint...

I still prefer VM topped with S&G on my glass. It seems to work best with fresh S&G all the time, so I QD my glass (and trim too) with S&G every time I QD the car.

I've been using Liquid Glass on my front windshields for years and love it.

Is anyone putting anything on the side windows or rear glass and if so, does that work well for you? I would think the beading might be a PIA there.

What is # 16 and who makes this product?

Thanks

Welcome to Autopia!

#16 is the now-discontinued (but still available) old-school paste wax from Meguiar's. Basically unchanged since the late 1950s, some of us still think it's really great.

The problem I have with putting stuff like this on windows (not windshields for other reasons) is that as soon as I clean the windows with glass cleaner the wax is gone. Nothing ever keeps my glass clean enough for my liking, so I end up using glass cleaner anyhow and *poof* there goes the wax.
