1000p on top of Klasse AIO?

Hi everybody,

I've been reading Autopia for a while now since there's so much information here. I searched around but couldn't find any info regarding this, so I figured I'd make a post and ask!

Anyways, in the upcoming week I plan on doing a full detail of my car. I plan on washing, claying, and then polishing with M105/M205 on a PC to remove defects (pretty minor so I may end up skipping M105), but I'm not too sure what I want to do with regard to sealant/waxing. I currently use the Klasse Twins, and they've held up pretty well. However, I really would like to try some 1000p, yet I'm not sure how I'm going to apply it. Preferably, I'd like to use AIO after polishing to remove whatever really fine defects there are (I know there's pretty much no abrasives) left from the polishing, but I'm not sure if it will have any adverse reactions with 1000p. Will 1000p be okay to use on top of Klasse AIO or will I have to use it by itself without AIO? Does anyone have any experience with the combination of the two products? Will the AIO interfere with the bonding of 1000p? Is AIO even needed?

Basically, what order should I do things?

1. Polish -> IPA Wipedown -> Klasse AIO -> 1000p (x3) -> 425

2. Polish -> IPA Wipedown -> 1000p (x3) -> 425

3. Polish -> IPA Wipedown -> Klasse AIO -> Wipedown Again -> 1000p (x3) -> 425

Thanks! :bigups

I'm guessing #3 will be the best. But I've got a similar question to yours just concerning Finish Kare products only. Hopefully someone with experience actually using these combinations will chime in.

I dont see any need for IPA in options 1 & 2. Klasse AIO has strong cleaners so will strip anything on the paint after cleaning, so save a step and some time and product. If you use IPA after Klasse you will remove some/all of the protection it leaves. Just do polish-Klasse-FK1000 for max protection.

Same applies for FK products if you are using 1 of the AIO products. TBH if you buff off the polish properly there should be no need for IPA with FK1000 apart from checking your polishing work as needed.

Not aimed at the OP but:

Why all the sudden threads and obsessive use of IPA around here all of a sudden. Its a cleaner for specific purposes not something that has to be used obsessively 10 times per detail????

:hm

I agree with ditching the IPA wipedowns. KAIO is intended to act as a base for a followup product.

I've used KAIO and WS Acrylic Prime as bases for a number of different products. I've had huge success with this strategy in terms of durability. We can look all the way back to Mr Spilchy's recommendation for this simple solution.

OP: Polish > KAIO > 1000p X2

I did this yesterday (WS Prime > 1000p X2):

As Tom said, there shouldn't be any problem with using KAIO as a base for 1000P. Just to give you another possibility, though, Danase Wet Glaze looks *awesome* under 1000P. It's also cheap and easy to apply.

(Tom, that photo is good enough to be in a product advertisement.)

Edit: This is a copy/paste of a post from another 1000P thread. To get the best possible results from 1000P, it's pretty important that you apply it according to this:

<paste>

I apply the first coat with a PC. Then after removing the first coat residue, I use either an MF or cotton hand applicator, and *very gently* (i can't emphasize the "very gently" part enough) put on the second coat by hand, using the least amount of pressure that I can and still see some product left on the paint. I apply in one direction only, and never in circles. Basically, what I'm trying to accomplish is laying down a second layer *without disturbing the first* layer. Rubbing or going back and forth will definitely start to erode the first layer. The solvents in the fresh 1000p will start to affect the first layer and give you those little particles. Think of it in terms of applying a WOWA product like UPGP or Z-CS: just touch the paint hard enough to leave a visible trail of product, in one direction, one time.

<end paste>

The only thing I find fussy about using 1000P, is that you do have to be *extremely* careful about adding additional coats. Very light touch, one direction, no rubbing or circles. Repeat that mantra during application, and it'll look great!

Okay, thanks. The reason why I wanted to do IPA after the polishing was to check to make sure all of the defects were removed. I guess I'll just skip the IPA step, though. And thanks SuperBee for the application tip! :) Oh, also, is it acceptable to add the 1000p using a black pad on a PC? I saw a lot of people used the red pads, but I don't have any of those.

Yeah, i've always wondered why LC felt it necessary to make so many colors of foam that basically is the same thing. Red/Black/Grey/Blue LC foam pads are all pretty much the same: zero bite.
