1) Didn't wash my car for a week! 2) Did a #7/GC today. (an Autopian ramble)

It was like trying to quit smoking, I tell ya. 8 days, no wash, no CCD, no QD. I kept saying to myself, "It's just a car, dude. Let it go." I made it from Saturday last until today!

Today, I decided to try the GC paste I've had sitting on the shelf. I've used the liquid in the past, but never the paste. To make it a Meguiar's kind of day (I love working with Meguiar's products; they are so honest), I washed with GC car wash. I hate the smell of that, BTW. It smells like "old lady's perfume", like "Tova" that used to be sold on QVC. But it's a good soap.

I then #7'd. My cod, that stuff is incredible. I've learned to work it pretty easily. When I was done, my car looked like it had been poured out of a bottle! If only there was a wax or sealant that would hold that look forever. I guess PS comes closest, but oh, at what a cost!

I had a bunch of different stuff I could've topped with; #20, MPPP, #26, LS, or GC. Mike's always seemed to be pretty proud of the GC look, calling it the deepest, darkest, shiniest, best looking product Meg's has. So, GC.

I did the whole car with the wax that was stuck to the top and sides of the container; I never touched the surface of the wax in the container! This can is going to last a while, I think. I followed what I now call "Meguiar's Rule": do the whole car, wait 20 minutes, and remove with a clean 100% terry towel. I'm partial to Koala towels for use with the Meguiar's products. They work a bit differently from a white terry, in that, because they are softer, they need to be moved a bit faster and turned a bit more often. OTOH, they are softer, and softer is safer.

IMO, the cleaning properties of GC are way overstated by many, including by Meguiar's. Yes, I picked up some pigment. But it was VERY minor. It was enough to let you know that it won't "layer" over top of anything, but insignifigant enough an amount as to be called negligible. IMO you could use it every day for years and not clean away enough paint to harm your car.

It looks great; everything I try looks great, actually. I'd post a pic, but it will look like all the others I've posted, like a shiny red car. What I've learned is that people always concentrate on and pay the most attention to the final layer, the wax or sealant; but, the show stopping appearance comes from what you did before the final layer, the work on the swirls and scratches and spiderwebs. If you do that, get rid of imperfections, then you can put almost any protectant on your car and it will turn heads.

I tried the MSLT for tires again, this time standing about 15 feet away from the car and spraying it onto the applicator, in the opposite direction from the car, no breeze.... Son of a gun, I got overspray on the hood and trunk again! MSLT for tires looks good, but I have to disqualify it as an Autopian product, for me at least. It can't look good but destroy other work that I've already done. That's unacceptable.

Now, what can I top the GC with? I'm thinking, LS or #26.... Naw. I want to see the GC sheeting water, and I want to see how long it lasts. I've always felt that the knock on GC for lack of durability has been related to the fact that it sheets water rather than beads it. The only problem with that is, I don't think I can go more than a couple weeks without waxing!

Bottles up,

Tom

I may get rotten vegetabels thrown at me here by saying this but i only wash my car once a week.

Here in Oz where water is not as plentiful as other places and the fact that we have water restrictions at the moment i cant justify it.

I apply all the sealants and waxes for a reason !!!! That is to protect my car and of course get it looking schmick.

Just my $.02

Yep, #7 is some nice glaze, but what you are seeing is the high oil content in it to produce more glossy, wet look. Nothing wrong with that so long as you are using a wax to go over it as it helps the wax flow onto the finish.

I've never used Megs "consumer" line (Gold Class) so I cannot comment, but if you pulled any color from a wax onto an applicator, you can bet it has solvents to clean the finish first.

The #26 is just good old pure wax with lower solvents, just those needed as a binding agent to keep the wax in suspension.

I've used the MPPP after the MPPC since it's a mixed type of sealant and other items, but work well together.

As for MSLT, I use it all the time with no problems. I spray it on an applicator down-wind or no wind. Works great for me and others that use it along with Stoner IG for glass. If using MSLT directly from the spray can, I have towels covering the fender/wheel wells, the spray while covering the wheels. I also use it in the wheel well area inside as it makes it look nice and new. New found use for Megs EK, use that now for wheel wells and all underside as it dries hard and does not attract dust/dirt.

I'd stay with #26 after #7 as I found that to be a real winning combo!

Deanski

Myles, if I could trade you some rain for some sunshine...

Q: What do you have after 2 days of rain in Northeast PA?

A: Monday.

Megs goes in so many different directions with all their "lines"; there's even a "professional" line for consumers (brown bottles) and a professional line for pros (1, 5, and 55 gal)! I too love #33 (7+26). Try #53, 7/20/26; it's amazing. I have so much stuff, I'm trying to use it all up so's I can try something else. The GC will never be a topper, but it may find a useful place in the Autopian lineup if it's as deep, dark, and glossy as MP claims. I'm thinking as a base for PS... the deepest darkest wax/poly hybrid known to MP, topped by the deepest carnuba known to me. PS looks awesome on everything, it would probably make pavement look like a swimming pool. In the interests of serving my Autopian community, I'll probably consent to trying that experiment! (Topping GC with PS, that is, not applying PS to pavement.)

I HAVEN'T WASHED MY CAR SINCE JUNE!!!

Let me qualify that!!!

Here, In the KC area, it hasn't rained since June...

So I QD, just about every day or two.

It just never seems to get very dirty.

(BTW, it's been raining now for 3 days straight, so, time to get out the wash bucket!)

hah. I dont wash my car but once a week. Actually, before yesterday, it had been 2.5 to 3 weeks. But, it stayed rather clean, just caus we didnt have rain all week for once.

Basicly, i see everything as "its just a car, and hell, its no where near a show car". So, if i have a few swirls, ok. But the thing shines like crazy, and you can only see the swirls up close. But, now, my GF and i both always say "They are not show cars" when i get mad caus theres a flake of dust on one of em

Has anyone had problems with #7 spotting white spots all over the paint? I did my friends car with clay/dacp/#7/s100 wax and its a 96 red camry with a carbon fiber hood. Even the hood has little white spots. You can only see them up close and Im pretty sure its NOT dried up dacp either.
