09 ZR1 detail this weekend...

08 GTI

New member
This weekend, I have a 2009 Black ZR1 to do an exterior detail on.

The car is new...with less than 200 miles on it!

Here is what my plans for the car, let me know what you think.

The car is clean, so I do not need to wash, but I do plan on wiping the car down with a damp towel...

I will then clay the paint, I just want to make sure the paint is perfect before I start to polishing.

With my EDGE polished and LC white pad go over the complete car with 106ff.

Now...should I wipe the car down with something before I either use the Chemical guys Jetseal 109 or Wolfgang sealant?

I will take pictures of the car and step by step shots as well. I will post them up sometime on Sunday after the car is completed.

Thanks for any input or tips!

I'd use a blue or black LC rather than white, make sure you use a QD with the towel wipedown, and wipe the car down with prep solvent before sealing.

Other than that, plan sounds great. I look forward to the pics!

sorry but what kind of experience to you have @ detailing?

form the sounds of your questions the last thing you should be working on is a black Zr1

Ok...this is not a joke. I have been detailing for over 20 years.

When i say that I will not be washing the car...the owner has already done that before he put it away. So, I will be wiping the car down with a microfiber towel and Z6. This will remove any dust/dirt that is sitting on the paint. I know I typed towel...but I will not be just simply wiping it down with just anything. I will also be taping the car off to cover/protect items that do not / should not get any product on them.

There are other steps that I will do, I just figured I didn't need to type them all out for this crowd.

The owner of the car has a pretty laid out garage...he has 2 other Corvettes along with this one and keeps the cars all very nice. The ZR1 just has some light marks in the paint from the dealer.

I just want the paint to look more even...and remove the light scratches in the paint.

I have used the white pad from LC with my EDGE polisher on a RED C6 and then followed up with the Jetseal. The same weekend I also did my GTI. The owner of the ZR1 saw the red C6 and said he wanted me to do his new car. I found the Jetseal did not last that long on the GTI, but I was told since I did not wipe the car down with a prep solve before applying the Jetseal is the reason the durability suffered. The Jetseal was easy to use and I was happy with the results, so I hope that wiping the car down will improve the Jetseal.

What prep solve should I use?

I'm thinking of ordering some product from Gloss it, but not sure what to order? Most the cars I do, the paint is in pretty good shape. How many out there have used this product? What do you think of it. it is not cheap and don't want to spend money on something I may not need/use.

I will not have the Gloss it in time to use on the ZR1, but would like to try it on a future job.

I will let my pictures speak for themselves once the car is completed...I just hope I can take good photo's!

Again, I was just looking for any idea's or whatever someone would like to add that may help me with this project...and just to bounce some idea's around so we can all learn.

Thanks!

Thanks I was worried about the car there for a min.:LOLOL

Prep sol or Prep-all or even an IPA wipe down should help with your problem

I think I will just go over it by had with a light coat of wax...again, the are is brand new and needs just a little attention.

I did a F430 Syder this summer...or last summer. :) What an awesome car! Nice ride you have there!

Be sure to use something clear ono the CF parts--we used opti-seal on the CF of this one...

The rest got M105 in a few spots, PO85RD, and M21 IIRC.

Is that a carbon fiber roof?

The brakes are huge! Really nice looking car. I see GM finally went with a true low profile tire/big rim combo. Nice nice nice.

it's polycarbonate a window

so a plastic polish like plastix should work fine ...if needed

I just use Plexus on the one that I take care of. Although his isn't scratched.

Correct. I used/use UPGP on my client's.

With the weather the way it has been in the Cleveland area...I held off doing the car.

Also, I will be ordering Gloss-It product. After talking to Rich a few times over the weekend, I want to have his product for the ZR1, I think this will be what the car truely needs to make it look just awesome!

So, in the coming weeks, I will have the ZR1 completed along with a 09 black CTS V!

I will post pictures of these cars once they are all done.

Thanks!
